  Salary Grade: NC11/Recruitment Range $42,464.00 - $74,313.00

  The primary purpose of this position is project design and drafting. Duties include drafting, estimates, site plans and contracts, including project special provisions for Central Let, Division Let Projects and Purchase Order Contracts. Employee in this position will maintain appropriate project records/reports and will perform necessary surveying calculations. This position involves familiarization with project design and applying appropriate specifications, design manuals, and applicable standards to develop plans. Employee in this position performs a variety of office assignments such as estimates with use of calculator, iPad and computer.

  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.

  Computer experience including office software and drafting software.

  Knowledge of mathematical functions (such as algebra, geometry, and trigonometry)

  Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and procedures.

  Experience in taking notes, collecting field data, and preparing routine reports.

  Additional Expectations:

  Work involves the ability to make independent decisions using sound engineering judgment. Employee will be expected to have proficiency using computers and electronic tablets in the record keeping of field data. Will be expected to work in an outside environment with exposure to hazards including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating future highway construction projects. Work involves the ability to work nights and weekends, as required, on any assigned project within the Division. Employee will be expected to apply safety philosophy and program to all operations. The ability to safely operate a state vehicle. Safety toe shoes will be needed. Employee will be expected to communicate in a clear, concise manner, both orally and in writing. MicroStation and Geopak / Open Roads experience is preferred.

  Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
