Engineering Specialist-Design

As a technical project lead on the 3500 Platform Engineering team within the Large Power Systems Division, you will provide leadership to integrate various components and systems into complete engine systems, resolve complex field and new product issues, and support manufacturing and assembly operations in Lafayette, Tianjin, and external suppliers. The incumbent will support the execution of NPI, CPI, and aftermarket growth opportunities for the 3500 platform in multiple engine applications. This technical lead position will directly support L3 design teams to lead some of the most challenging technical projects in the areas of CPI, APQP support, NSI, Cost Reduction, and Assurance of Supply.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Working with design, development, systems integration, and software engineers to resolve complex CPI issues.
Support strategic sourcing projects with technical platform guidance and APQP/validation execution and requirements management.
Effective communication of status, risks, and key next steps to senior leadership regarding key projects.
Lead a wide variety of special projects such as alternative fuel performance evaluations and next generation component designs.
Planning and execution of complex, multi-component/system validation activities.
Managing L4 system requirements, specifications, and design reviews.
Primary point of contact to key L3 teams on behalf of 3500 platform.
Basic Qualifications:
BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering AND 5 years of relevant experience.
3 years engine design, development, or validation experience or equivalent.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and good oral and written communication skills.
Candidate must be willing to work in field/shop/lab environments when needed.
Candidate must be able to lead a cross-functional team and take responsibility for overall team execution.
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
Direct experience with 3500 Diesel and/or Gas engines or engine systems.
CPI Blackbelt training (or equivalent).
Experience with LPSD DVP&R and FMEA processes.
Strong professional network to enable working with and leading cross-functional teams.
Additional Information:
Location of this position is Lafayette, IN.
Relocation assistance is available for this position.
Travel up to 5% possible with this position.
