Responsible for assisting with the administration of construction activities associated with Public Works infrastructure projects under the supervision of the City Engineer and Engineering Technician. Performs data collection, construction observation, material testing and public information duties during the construction phase for street and utility improvement projects. Performs or assists with construction observation on Public Works infrastructure projects to ensure that construction is consistent with project specifications, plans, and codes. Projects include installation of streets, water mains, sanitary sewers, storm drainage systems, sidewalks, trails, pump stations, and water resources infrastructure. Performs or coordinates testing of soils and materials used in public construction projects and oversees tests performed by contractors for conformance to specifications. Performs necessary measurements and maintains complete records for contract payments and accurate as-built drawings. Acts as liaison to contractor and the public to provide information and solve problems. Communicates with property owners about construction projects and keeps them informed of the status of projects. Answers questions about schedules and potential impacts to property. Performs other duties as assigned.
