Bruce Power currently has an opportunity for an Engineer/Engineering Trainee to join our MCR Engineering Department in the Fuel Channels Replacement Section. Reporting to the Section Manager, MCR Fuel Channels, the successful incumbent will be required to deliver results in a fast-paced environment by providing technical and practical engineering solutions to complex issues.
This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical support and oversight during planning, development, and execution of plant modifications.
Responsible for delivering the overall technical scope of the project as identified in the MCR scope of work document.
Be knowledgeable of the technical and quality requirements (ex. Pressure Boundary) and the regulatory codes and standards applicable to the discipline, used in the preparation and review of work procedures.
Interface with internal contacts within MCR programs and site engineering, operations, maintenance departments etc. and support communications with external regulatory agencies, contract service providers, manufacturers, etc. in alignment with approved designs and supply chain processes.
Review Engineering reports for compliance to the overall technical scope of work, cost, and schedule. Request revisions as required.
Participate in design and construction vendor selection process.
Support Project Development Phase by reviews during 50% and 90% design package submissions from constructability and execution standpoint. Ensure that the design and construction margins are well understood.
Conduct and lead interactive planning sessions to discuss and resolve constructability/ field execution planning issues.
Prepare, review or approve installation procedures, work coordination plans, test procedures and commissioning plans for successful implementation of the project.
Provide technical specifications for contract documents as required. Review and evaluate vendor bids for technical details and compliance to Bruce Power requirements.
Provide technical assistance/guidance and field support to construction personnel or other clients related to the interpretation of design information, work method and constructability based on project requirements.
Provide engineering guidance and authority to progress work for all non-intent changes to the design package during installation and commissioning.
Work with field engineering/ services to provide timely response to vendor requests via RFI process.
Participate in establishing and updating schedules for project engineering deliverables.
Responsible for maintaining own qualification as per TQD, Training and qualification requirements.
Ensures the engineering scope of work is properly defined for MCR FCFR.
Responsible for the Engineering Change from the time it is assigned until it is accepted by Operations (AFS signoff), documentation is submitted to Records, and the DCP is closed out.
Identifies the structure and scope of DCNs to support the FCFR project plan and MCR needs.
Responsible for maintenance of the plant design basis for MCR projects.
Determines and coordinates the preparation of the design related information associated with the preliminary design phase (Design Change Package).
Determines the need, extent and appropriate time for conducting walkdowns required to support the issuance of the DCP.
Request constructability reviews for projects as necessary.
Ensures Owner’s review is performed per DIV-ENG-00018 for DCPs prepared by external agencies and ensuring all activities per DIV-ENG-00017 are completed by Bruce Power.
Ensures regulatory approvals are obtained in accordance with the operating licenses.
Ensures the completeness of the Design Change Package.
Ensures the reviews and approvals are correctly identified on Design Change Notices.
Ensures the reviews and dispositions of all supplier technical documents, exception to bid and concession applications within time expectations.
Resolve non-conformances, field change requests & RFIs by coordinating necessary actions with stakeholder support through the use of the Corrective Action Process and Accountability Model.
Prepare Engineering Evaluations to support condition assessment and development of corrective actions for pressure boundary systems and components.
Prepare Engineering Calculations to resolve fitment challenges during the installation of MCR Fuel Channels critical path.
Maintain an up to date OPEX database including internal and external events for trending, lessons learned, and programmatic updates.
Provide technical presentations to various groups on an as required basis.
Conduct field walkdowns when required.
Perform other duties as required and assigned by line management.
Skills and Knowledge
Requires knowledge of physics, chemistry, metallurgy, mathematics, engineering and economics to technically understand the operation of the facility.
Requires strong technical writing skills for preparing specifications, work instructions, asset management documents, and planning documents. Must have a demonstrated ability to prepare clear and concise reports. Must be able to propose recommendations and resolution to technical issues both verbally and in writing.
Ability to interface effectively with Plant Operations, Plant Engineering, Maintenance, other technical staff, Regulators and other stakeholders. Ability to interact positively with others by developing trust, mutual respect and cooperative working relationships.
Requires knowledge to solve problems, to provide advice and guidance, to initiate developmental studies and to make recommendations during the design, fabrication, construction and commissioning of Fuel Channels.
Field experience, DCN and DCP, supporting construction RFI’s.
Requires knowledge of project controls principals to monitor the project and report out progress or deviations from the engineering schedule and costing commitments.
Familiarity with applicable codes and standards is considered an asset.
Experience in design engineering in MCR is preferred.
Education and Experience Minimum Requirements:
Engineer (Occupation Code 670325)
Completion of a 4 year University degree in Engineering.
Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) within the Province of Ontario.
A period of up to and including 6 years is considered necessary.
Engineer Trainee (Occupation Code 670207)
Completion of a 4 year University degree in Engineering.
Working towards registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) within the Province of Ontario
A period of up to and including 4 years of experience is considered necessary.
