Job Summary
Work Shift
1 - First Shift
The Engineer I - Weld supports manufacturing and design and drives welding-related improvement projects. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, Vermeer welding standards, NDE, welding automation (robotics and hard automation), weldment design, print reviews, welding cost reduction, welding emission control, welding equipment recommendations, and failure analysis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Demonstrate the Vermeer
characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused, and stewardship and model the associated behaviors.
Work with product design engineering teams on new and existing products to optimize weldment design. This will include, but is not limited to: weld joint design, design for automation, fatigue life analysis, design for manufacturability, and welding related failure analysis.
Develop welding procedures with assistance of weld engineering technicians.
Identify, test, and recommend manufacturing materials and processes that are new to Vermeer (not limited to welding).
Work with production to reduce waste and improve quality and productivity in welding through optimizing cell layout, implementing lean principles, maximizing equipment utilization, and justifying automation. Identify areas of improved efficiency with right sized automation and act as a resource on proper utilization of automation.
Maintain Vermeer welding standards, welding design guidelines, and welding-related standard work.
Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements on welding Fume control.
Education and/or Experience
4-year college degree in Welding, Materials Joining, Manufacturing or Metallurgical Engineering.
Or other 2 or 4-year college degree with a minimum of 4 years' related experience.
Other Skills and Abilities
Knowledge in the area(s) of welding processes, welding consumables, welding metallurgy, fatigue design, and failure analysis.
Knowledge of robotic programming, CAD, Technical Drawing, and Schematic Reading.
Ability to perform root cause analysis of defective parts of product design and manufacturing to resolve customer notifications of quality issues.
Ability to provide informative and professional assistance when working with the public/customers and co-workers and maintain positive interpersonal relationships which encourage openness.
Ability to produce accurate, professional and error-free documents in a timely manner.
Demonstration of good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the Organization.
Ability to demonstrate proficiency in welding, assembly, and mechanical tools.
Ability to comprehend blue print reading and take measurement readings.
Effectively manage time and resources to meet the needs and schedules of internal customers and respond immediately to production questions and crisis with solutions.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration
Certified Welding Inspector and Certified Welding Engineer with the American Welding Society and/or equivalent preferred.
Travel
Up to 20% domestic and/or international travel by car or plane may be required.
Work Location
ONSITE: A team member's day-to-day work is best done on a Vermeer campus. If work content can be occasionally completed at an offsite location, discuss potential arrangeme ts with your manager.
