Job Summary
The position supports the design of the LIPA distribution system and advance applicable Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act Initiatives. The engineer will support incremental workload associated with development of various aspects of Distributed System Platform (DSP), notably to support various engineering and analytical effort to realize system optimizations associated with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and enabling platforms to provide granular information to the Distributed Energy Resource (DER) interconnection customer.
The engineer will conduct detailed power system analysis to conduct DER interconnection studies, specialized studies to enable ways to increase hosting capacity on the system, and develop cost effective solutions using cutting edge technology such as AMI meter data. In addition, the engineer will analyze and integrate innovative technology to advance the distribution system platform.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Responsible for conducting power flow analyses across LIPA system and integrating the information using GIS and CYME software
Perform research on the technology being employed by other utilities or offered in the market to enhance TD planning practice and platforms
Conduct detailed power system studies such as DER interconnection studies distribution area study and support load forecast efforts in distribution planning
Actively participate with working groups universities and other utilities to capture the best practices tobe employed on TD system
Oversee and participate in the development of Utility 20 filing not limited to collaborating with other organization to develop optimized technical solutions
Successfully design lead and align the distribution project consistent with LIPA TD criteria NYSCLCPA initiatives and with latest DPS orders
Analyze and work with internal and thirdparty vendors to make improvements to the hosting capacity maps
Responsible for working closely with Data Analytics team to implement use cases for TD systemimprovement utilizing the AMI metered data
Ensure the execution of Utility 20 deliverables in timely manner by collaborating with internal and external groups
Collaborate with internal organization to support five year capital budget plan
Assess and implement softwaretools that supports the integration of DER onto LIPA grid
Develop innovative ideas and explore tools which will incorporate both power system technical and economic concepts that can be employed in planning process
Compile analyze and interpret large sets of power system data to develop theoryconclusions
Support normal and contingency analysis of distribution system using CYME software
Collaborate with internal and consulting teams to develop solutions to challenging technical problems
Job Specific Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
B.S. in Electrical Engineering
2-4 years of relevant experience
Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills as well as ability to travel on and off Long Island is required .
Desire to handle challenging projects and the ability to quickly come up to speed is essential.
Must have conceptual knowledge about either distribution or transmission systems.
Desire to learn new concepts and attention to details is critical to be successful in this position.
Must be able to handle multiple projects at the same time and complete them on-time.
Ability to respond to emergency storm and other conditions requires field work during nights and weekend .
Desired:
A Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, MBA or PE License
Familiarity with Distributed System Platform concept and projects
Knowledge of Python Programming, Tableau, VBA, SOL and C++ Knowledge of Distribution system
Familiarity with transmission and distribution system planning models (PSSE, ASPEN, CYME) for load flow, short circuit, voltage, and contingency analyses is preferred, as well as knowledge of engineering economics fundamentals necessary to conduct and evaluate power system related studies.
