Under the ambulance Chief and NAAS officers, the ideal Emergency MedicalTechnician (\"employee\") will perform duties associated with providingrescue services and emergency medical care to the sick and injured inaccordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and NAAS policies.General Responsibilities The employee must possess and applyknowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of an emergencymedical technician and rescuer, in a dignified and compassionate manner,including but not limited: - Responding to emergency and non-emergencycalls calmly, efficiently and promptly; - Administering basic lifesupport to patients at the scene, en route to the hospital, and in apre-hospital setting, in accordance with federal, state, and local laws,regulations, and standards; - Assessing the nature and extent of injuryor illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures to befollowed; - Rescuing and extricating victims of accidents, suddenillness or entrapment using proper rescue and medical techniques; -Treating patients at the scene, en route to the hospital, and in apre-hospital setting, in accordance with federal, state, local, laws,regulations, and standards and in accordance with NAAS policies, rules,and guidelines; - Effectively communicating with professional medicalpersonnel and treatment facilities to obtain instructions regardingfurther treatment and/or to arrange reception of patients to theappropriate center; - Maintaining order at scenes, including crowddisbursement and restraint of family and friends; and - Completingpatient care forms, insurance forms, evaluation forms, and all otherforms in a competent and timely fashion. - Adhere to and follow allPolicies and Procedures concerning safety and contamination bybloodborne pathogens; and - Educate and /or train squad personnel, EMStrainees and the public QUALIFICATIONS Educational Requirements Theemployee must have a minimum of either a high school diploma or a GED asevidence of completion of a high school education, and must have andmaintain current state emergency medical technician certification. Anemployee must also maintain the required annual continuing medicaleducation credits as set forth by the MA OEMS. Certificates, LicensesAnd Registrations The employee must possess and maintain a validdriver\'s license, current MA EMT certification, American Red Cross CPRfor the Professional Rescuer and/or American Heart Association BCLScertification, and other certifications as required. Employment beginsimmediately with classes beginning in February to attain relevantcertification; funding is available for those who qualify. AbilitiesRequired And Special Requirements The employee must possess basicworking knowledge of a computer, and be able to enter necessary datainto a computer. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION The physicaldemands described here are representative of those that must be met byan employee to successfully perform the essential functions of thisposition.
