Job Summary
An END Technologist I conducts EEG examinations under the general supervisionof a senior staff. The END I is responsible for the preparation of thepatient, conducting EEG examinations, and collecting information pertinentfor the interpretation of the tests. The Technologist is responsible forperforming standard as well as motivated to pursue the skills necessary tocomplete more complicated and complex EEG recordings. Is able to monitoradditional electrophysiological phenomena by means of appropriate techniquesand instrumentation, may assist in the training and teaching of END studentsor other junior END I Technicians.
Essential Functions:
Perform standard EEG recording including:* Summarize the patient's neurologic status and clinical history from thechart, the patient, or other knowledgeable persons.* Explain the recording procedure to the patient, family members present andhospital staff.* Adapt methods of instrumentation to obtain optimal results based onhistory, clinical observations and EEG findings.* Provide appropriate patient care and detailed observations of clinicalmanifestations during seizures/events and other patient emergency situations5. Ensure electrical safety of patients at all times.(50%)Demonstrate proficiency in the standard department workflow in EPIC as well asthe skills necessary to complete modification of orders, rescheduling andall functions in EPIC. (15%)Demonstrates proficiency in maintaining daily inter-personal relationships andcommunication with clinical team regarding relevant patient information,patient care and scheduling. (10%)Keep equipment in clean operating condition. (10%)Perform maintenance and minor repair of laboratory equipment and report needfor major repairs. (5%)Complete daily work flow tasks in EPIC, W-Ren folder, Neuro-productivity (5%)Assist END Supervisor in program development and laboratory organization. (5%)
Education:High School Diploma or GED Required
Work Experience:Demonstrates competency with the 10/20 system of electrode placementLicenses:BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to perform and have understanding of various different Neurodiagnosticprocedures. Independent judgment and initiative.Review of fundamental EEG textbooks through specific reading assignments. Abackground in high school physics is desired but not mandatory.Develop rapport with patients from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic andeducational backgrounds as well as have comfort in physical patient contact.Interact appropriately and efficiently with nurses, physicians and patienttransporters. Proficiency in English is mandatory, Spanish is desired butnot mandatoryReferral processing, troubleshooting of EEG equipment and identification ofEEG abnormalities are not required at the beginning END technician Iposition, but will be acquired with experienceDevelop skillset required to identify and manage patients in medical distressBasic knowledge of Microsoft programs; word, outlook with an emphasis on excelComfortable with PC and Microsoft Windows Office applications is requiredProficient in typing is required
