About Electrical Engineering Intern

  Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Government Services Department is looking for a Power/Electrical Engineering Intern! We develop custom products and do both basic and applied research for the United States Government. If you enjoy diving deep on the fundamentals of power systems and applying creative problem-solving techniques to challenging problems, you’ll enjoy working in our department. We’ve got an array of interesting research going on that will give you a unique opportunity to put your schoolwork into practice and work hands-on with state-of-the-art test equipment and software. We offer full-time employment during the summers and with the option of flexible part-time employment during the college semester. Both undergraduate and graduate interns are welcome. You must be a U.S. Citizen to work in the Government Services Department.

  As an Electrical Engineering Intern, a typical day might include the following:

  Providing technical support to SEL staff & customers.

  Developing and maintaining knowledge in SEL processes and technologies.

  Performing fundamental research on power systems topics.

  Setting up and running power systems simulations.

  Performing testing on power systems technology.

  Documenting and communicating results.

  Following and applying SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

  This job might be for you if you have:

  A strong background in circuit theory and transient analysis.

  Experience in programming and script files.

  Technical research skills.

  Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.

  The ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.

  The ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

  Background check results satisfactory to SEL.

  Negative drug test result(s).

  Preferred Qualifications

  Practical knowledge of 3-phase power systems.

  Practical knowledge of SEL protective relays & automation controllers.

  Working knowledge of emulators and logic analyzers.

  Familiarity with other fundamental EE topics such as electronics, control systems, communication systems, semiconductor devices, and electromagnetic field theory.

  Experience with power systems simulation software such as ATP, EMTP, RSCAD, LTspice, or PowerWorld.

  Academic research experience.

  Pay Range Data

  ($17.00 - $26.50 per hour)* Our intern pay is determined based on the internship role (the work you would be doing) and your year in school (when you plan to graduate). Talk to your recruiter if you are curious about the rate for your year in school.
