Project teams in our Energy & Industrial Group (EIG) support industry-leading projects in power generation, plant design, environmental compliance, mid/downstream oil & gas, and multi-disciplined industrial projects. We’re leading efforts to decarbonize the industry by utilizing advanced technologies in renewable energy, carbon capture, and hydrogen power. Our EIG teams perform detailed engineering services for photovoltaic (PV) solar projects and the integration of solar and energy storage. We’re the industry leader in carbon capture technologies with experience executing pilot-scale to commercial-scale projects for utilities, industrial plants, and direct air capture. We provide engineering services for green hydrogen production via electrolysis using solar, wind, hydro, and nuclear power sources and we support on-site usage in power generation, fuel cells, and fueling stations.
As a Mid-Level Solar Engineer you will support the technical evaluation and design of commercial and utility-scale renewable energy solar PV projects.
This position will offer you the opportunity to work in a project team environment with other engineers and designers involved in the design, modification, and analysis of new and existing solar PV facility electrical systems.
Provide input to conceptual layouts using best practices and preliminary equipment sizing calculations.
Support the project manager in preparation of solar PV design proposals.
Prepare and review electrical system design documents such as specifications, one lines, string layouts, cable calculations, etc.
Interface with project management and other engineering disciplines throughout the project.
Be responsible for remaining up to date with the latest industry trends and technology offerings from the major PV system equipment OEMs and suppliers, specifically modules, inverters, and racking systems.
Engage with Clients on technical related topics.
Participate in project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner, contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors.
Provide overall quality assurance practices for required deliverables.
Contribute to internal process improvement initiatives.
This role offers a hybrid work arrangement. You'll spend three days a week in the office, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.
Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:
A BSEE or a BSET degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program is required.
2 or more years of experience in the solar PV facility design, with a focus on integrated, detailed system design for new facilities, or modifications or replacements for existing facilities.
Comprehensive understanding of design standards and codes for electrical power systems, including National Electrical Code and applicable energy codes.
Experience in the selection of equipment, materials, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications.
Experience with Solar PV electrical system design including AC and DC system design, communication systems, and calculations.
Technically knowledgeable of available equipment and proven pre-engineered systems to execute systems design.
Experience with serving as firm/client liaison in a support role.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Ability to work independently or in multi-disciplinary project teams either in-person or remotely.
Ability to meet project schedules and budgets.
Ability to manage and prioritize workload across multiple projects.
Desire to work in a fast-paced challenging environment.
Experience in reviewing other engineers design calculations and drawings.
This position is based in Chicago, IL and may require occasional travel.
Valued but not required skills and experience:
Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and designation as an Engineer in Training.
Experience performing Arc Flash Studies in ETAP and SKM.
Experience using AutoCad, PVcase, and/or PVsyst.
Collector Substation design experience a plus.
Construction and start-up experience a plus.
