  ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, FLIGHT TERMINATION SYSTEM (STARSHIP)

  As a member of the Flight Termination System team, you will have the exciting opportunity to be responsible for designing the Starship Flight Safety System hardware and test systems! You will demonstrate extreme ownership of hardware and test systems through deep understanding of the functionality, design, and requirements from concept to flight. You will work closely with other engineering teams and regulatory agencies to ensure the hardware meets the mission and regulatory requirements. Our development timelines are aggressive and the Flight Termination System is one of the few safety critical systems on the vehicle. The development and testing of the hardware that makes up the FTS requires extremely high levels of rigor and you will solve very challenging problems at the intersection of safety critical electronics and high explosives.

  RESPONSIBILITIES:

  Design, develop, and test highly reliable electronics and hardware validation test systems for the Starship program

  Responsible for the electrical architecture, product requirements and capabilities, component selection, design analysis, schematic capture, prototyping, bring-up, debugging, circuit validation, product management, and production rollout

  Write and execute verification test plans, test procedures, and test reports for production of safety critical flight hardware

  Write automation software in Python to interact with units under test, test equipment, instrumentation, and production documentation systems

  Manage and tailor requirements with regulatory agencies for certification of the Starship Flight Safety System

  Support and prepare architectural system trades

  Support analysis and data review for Starship vehicle operations

  Work with experts from other teams and departments to drive changes that make the system more efficient, more manufacturable, and more reliable. Challenge assumptions and build strong professional relationships

  BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering

  1+ year of professional experience designing, building, or testing circuit boards or integrated electronics

  PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  3+ years of professional experience rapidly designing and delivering highly reliable electronics

  Experience with system design and testing for hardware sub-systems such as RF, power, communications, human interface, and sensors

  Experience with automating hardware test systems in production environments

  Experience designing and certifying flight safety systems for launch vehicles

  Experience with test equipment and measurement techniques to verify and validate product requirements

  Experience with circuit board layout, especially for high-speed digital applications

  Experience designing switching power converters, power magnetics, analog control loops, solid state load switches, motor inverters, EMI/EMC compliance, or sensor signal conditioning circuits

  Experience with high voltage devices, lithium ion batteries, or power distribution optimization

  Experience with high performance digital processors, FPGAs, memory chips, or network switches

  Strong cross functional project management skills and the ability to collaborate with other engineering disciplines

  Excellent presentation, communication, and documentation skills

  ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical project and mission milestones

  Must be willing to travel (< 25%)

  COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  Pay Range:

  Electrical Engineer/Level I: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00/per year

  Electrical Engineer/Level II: $115,000.00 - $135,000.00/per year

  Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

  Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You will also receive access to comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, access to a 401(k) retirement plan, short & long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various other discounts and perks. You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation & will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year. Exempt employees are eligible for 5 days of sick leave per year.
