Description:
Our client in Manassas, VA is seeking an Electrical Engineer for a short-term position in their Hardware Engineering group. The successful candidate will work alongside an electrical design team to design satellite communication and GPS tracking electronics that meet customer requirements. The candidate will also help shape our Assured PNT and SDR-based product designs, leading or participating in the requirement, planning, development, and production phases of these projects.
Responsibilities:
• Design PCBs using Altium Designer, including schematic capture, layout, BoMs, DVT, and DFM.
• Guide the EE team using effective design and test guidelines and processes.
• Mentor junior engineers, providing effective design and test guidelines and processes, and fostering effective communication within the team.
• Work with the Hardware Engineering Manager to review requirements for proposed products, estimate the labor and material costs involved, understand impact to the schedule, and identify potential obstacles and opportunities for design improvement.
• Create design verification test (DVT) plans, perform design verification testing & create test reports.
• Characterize performance of new designs; power management, communication performance, and RF performance are of particular interest.
• Identify and implement PCB designs and electronic components to maximize PCBA performance and design longevity and minimize component delivery and PCBA cost.
• Work closely with mechanical engineers to define PCBA dimensions, external I/O and power connections for new products.
• Establish and maintain vendor relationships, working with purchasing to communicate with outside vendors to locate needed parts.
Required:
• BS in Electrical Engineering required
• 5+ years of in-depth experience with the nuances of Altium.
• 10+ years electrical engineering experience, digital and power supply design experience
• Ability to estimate project labor and materials costs, and to define schedules.
• Experience with PCBA power management design, particularly with battery-powered systems
• Ability to utilize laboratory equipment: Oscilloscopes, signal generators, vector network
analyzers, data acquisition modules, spectrum analyzers, programmable power supplies/loads
and others.
Preferred:
• MS in Electrical Engineering
• Experience with small form-factor devices, microcontrollers, batteries, and power supplies
• Analog and RF design experience
• Experience with RF systems and designing to mitigate EMI
• Experience leading and advising small teams
