SUMMARY
The Electrical and Controls Engineering Manager plans and directs all aspects of electrical and controls engineering policies and procedures for capital projects, maintenance repairs, and SCADA/OEE systems. Ensures operations processes are in conformity with the established policies and objectives.
Utilizing best practices provides expert technical project management for facility controls systems and electrical power including specifications, design, scope of work, competitive bidding, contractor management, startup support, troubleshooting, training and optimization of new/upgraded systems.
Leads the facilities controls technician team with emphasis on safety, and downtime reduction.
Provides training and technical leadership to appropriate personnel regarding equipment operations, standards, and maintenance.
Additionally, this role requires the management of other programs, as assigned. This is a highly technical position that will directly impact food safety and quality.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Complies with, demonstrates, and promotes company core values and behavioral standards.
Provide electrical engineering technical service and control programming as needed to support the general infrastructure, electrical service distribution and manufacturing process.
Lead and support the development of controls and instrumentation expertise for plant technical resources. Creates and or updates control and electrical specifications to ensure consistent, sustainable systems.
Manage and support capital projects of limited scope; provide technical electrical and controls assistance to project teams; support development of future facility capital requirements.
Ensure assigned tasks are completed on schedule.
Develops and executes controls and automation strategies for process and packaging equipment optimization.
Develops scope of work documents and completes competitive bidding for installation.
Develops and leads all electrical, and controls and instrumentation, expertise for plant technical resources.
Provide technical leadership and support to Plant Operational and Maintenance staff in problem resolution and optimization of existing electrical control and automation systems.
Direct oversight of maintenance controls technicians. Emphasis on safe equipment and downtime reduction in collaboration with the maintenance team.
Fosters a culture of clear communication and teamwork within plant, maintenance and engineering teams.
Provides training and consultation on controls systems and automated processes and equipment.
Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders and/or customers.
Develops and manages external supplier relationships.
Directly manages contractors through installation for workplace safety, food safety and ensures design compliance.
Supports startup and drives to complete project deliverables.
Support continuous improvement efforts, through the development and implementation of equipment capability and performance data improvements, resulting in increased operational capability, reliability, and efficiency.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
TECHNICAL SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced knowledge and experience with PLC, HMI and motion control systems commonly used within industrial manufacturing processes.
A-B Factory Talk ME and SE, and Studio 5000/LOGIX 5000, and RS LINX.
An advanced understanding of controls networking systems and network security measures, including Firewall, M-guard, and Cisco switch technology.
Manufacturing digital information systems, such as Ignition.
Experience using industrial instrumentation and process control systems, industrial computer systems, motor control, distributed control systems, electrical power, and other automation systems.
Knowledge of power and control panel design, components and operation.
Familiarity with SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
Compliance exposure to relevant agency and safety standards (UL, CSA, CE, FM, etc.).
System studies – Short Circuit, Protective settings, Coordination, Harmonics, Motor Starting, Arc Flash.
Stays current on food packaging trends and equipment.
Familiar with common food processing and packing equipment.
Experience, Competencies and Education
Minimum BA or BS degree (preferred) electrical engineering, controls engineering, or related field.
Minimum (6) years related food production and safety experience (required).

Ability to travel as needed.

Strong understanding of business principles and processes.

Physical Requirements
