A Brief Summary of This Position:
The EHS Coordinator is responsible for providing environmental, healthand safety support and ensuring that all practices are in compliancewith Valmont policies and local, state, and federal OSHA rules andregulations. This position is responsible for coordinating regulatoryprograms and its permitting applications. The incumbent will support thedevelopment and coordination of training programs in accordance withsite and organizational programs.
Essential Functions:
Consult with all departments on use of equipment, fire prevention,health and safety programsAssist in the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperatein the preparation of material evidence for hearings, lawsuits, andinsurance investigations, and participate in hearings as needed.Participate in the administration of workers compensation program,including working with the insurance carrier to cut down on lostemployee time and cut back on unjust claimsConduct regular safety inspection tours of facilities to detectexisting or potential accident and health hazards, and recommendcorrective or preventative measures where indicatedRepresent the organization in community or industry safety groupsand programsBe responsible for OSHA reports and record keeping and maintainsafety files and recordsDevise, supervise, and coordinate mandatory and voluntary trainingprograms which will increase proficiency in safe practices andpromote safety consciousnessConduct safety specific new employee orientationMaintain all records for EHS functions for the siteOther Important Details about the Role:
This position reports to the Plant ManagerCoordinate and lead monthly safety meetingServe as a site contact for state and federal auditsPerform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and requiredWorking Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is performed in both an office and factory setting, withapproximately 60% of the time being spent moving around different areasof manufacturing and shipping areas. The incumbent is regularly requiredto sit, walk, and stand for extended periods of time, as well as talkand listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Thisposition will be exposed to all hazards located at manufacturing sitesincluding noise, fumes, excessive heat/cold, dust, welding arc, allchemicals associated with the manufacturing areas, fire, smoke, unstabledebris and confined spaces. Environment is fast-paced and demanding mostof the time. Travel as needed less than 5-10%. This position willsupport multiple shift operations.
The employee is frequently required to use hands to fingers, handle, orfeel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office withvarious files and forms and while working on the computer. Incumbentmust utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height andpositions, keyboard location and height and proper wrist rests. Theincumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds in workingwith large files, binders, computer equipment and shop equipment.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
