UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a Part-time EEG Technologist for our Neurology Department.
This is a 20 hr/wk position that will work primarily 8:00 am - 4:30 pm; includes rotating weekends and holidays.
The EEG Technologist performs diagnostic testing on in and out patient in the ICU, OR, and diagnostic Lab according to established procedures.
Responsibilities:
Check the proper operation of the Recording system, reading station, and supplies.
Operate and Identify standard montages as well as non-standard montages as needed.
Report significant changes to the Medical Director/Reading physician and exercise judgment during testing for the need for physician intervention.
Recognize artifacts and differentiate them from Evoked Potential patterns and eliminate them.
Practice Universal Precaution techniques.
Record patient pre and post-testing education and history.
Apply electrodes on predetermined measured positions on the head and check performance.
Perform all necessary measurements and electrode application and disconnection technique for 24-hour ambulatory recording.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
Scan and review findings on ambulatory recorder and prepare for physician interpretation.
Obtain recording, and utilizes judgment to determine whether the patient meets normal standards.
Perform portable studies in ICU and OR upon request.
Exhibit understanding of various diseases and effects on patient and medication used.
Coordinate daily schedule to complete assignments.
Able to perform studies and 24 hour recording.
Operate and troubleshoot system, scan 24-hour recorders and adapt to frequent changes in work assignments.
Maintain patient confidentiality.
Trouble shoot prior to and during testing.
Document tech impression and normal and abnormal findings on worksheets for Physician.
Know brain anatomy, function, and disease.
Transcribe EEG testing and maintain records.
Requires completion of an EEG program or two years of college emphasis in Science with 2 years of EEG experience.
Requires Registered or registered eligible and eligibility for certification in respective Neurophysiological society.
Requires 1 year experience in EEG or Sleep lab using a digital system and 1 year of experience with 24-hour monitors and scanning experience.
Prefers to work independently with good organizational skills, typing, PC skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Word. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR is required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) OR Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
