About Education Assistant

  The Education Assistant assists in the development and deliverance of educational programs [fee-based and pre-registered programs, ambassador animal programs, and interpretative programs including signage and exhibits], activities and projects for Zoo guests, school groups and the community, promoting the conservation of the environment and the appreciation of wildlife. The Education Assistant effectively incorporates ambassador animals into programs and interactive programs.

  *Essential Functions: *

  Regular and predictable attendance is expected and required. All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.Interprets and presents Zoo educational programs for groups and organizations of all ages at the Zoo or in the community: creates interpretative experiences for guests at exhibits; creates interpretive content for signage; maintains exhibitry; conducts teacher professional development; delivers overnight or camp programs; works with live animals to engage individuals at the Zoo, in schools or at special events.Assists with the planning and development of new programming and projects and modifies them to meet changing needs and requirements: researches background information; utilizes logic models and established Zoo messaging during planning; develops and conducts program evaluations.Assists Education Specialist or Education Manager with the training of seasonal employees or volunteers; provides input on training materials; assists in the delivery of training modules; reinforces training information with seasonal employees or volunteers.Completes administrative tasks: answers correspondence; provides written materials or reports; orders materials; develops and maintains inventories.Handles Ambassador Animals during programs and interactive experiences.Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.Updates and enhances own knowledge by involvement in continuing education for professional growth (i.e., attends relevant conferences, seminars, in-service trainings, and certification programs)Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.Qualifications:

  Associate's degree in biological sciences, zoology, graphic arts or a related field required; supplemented by one year of experience in animal handling, care or training, public speaking, or customer service; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

  CPR and First Aid certification and Blood Borne Pathogen certifications required, or ability to obtain certifications during course of employment.

  Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.

  Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.

  Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.

  Management skills and strong business acumen, including problem solving, vision, ability to manage multiple programs and meet deadlines, collaboration, leadership, decision making and ability to analyze diverse facts and develop clear and concise reports and recommendations.

  Ability to work cooperatively with others.
