  Position Overview

  As a Weeks Marine Intern - Dredging Engineering, you will be an integral part of our marine based Dredging Division. In this position, you will learn to utilize engineering principles taking part in project layout, topographic and hydrographic surveying, production guidance, monitoring, reporting, and dredging quality control. You will have the opportunity to collaborate and work with other talented team members. This position will report directly to a senior level Field Engineer.

  District Overview

  The Weeks Dredging division is a respected marine contractor that owns, operates, and maintains a diverse and extensive fleet of dredging and support equipment.

  We serve customers that require dredging for navigation and restoration, in turn maintaining the waterways that transport goods and fortifying our infrastructure and coastlines. Weeks provides a cohesive dredging services lifecycle. We specialize in both capital and maintenance dredging for deep or shallow draft navigation, as well as coastal restoration and protection. The division employs a talented and motivated workforce that includes managers, engineers, technicians, and support personnel — all with experience and qualifications that are second to none.

  Responsibilities

  • Train to increase scope of knowledge, skills and understanding of Hydrographic surveying and reporting requirements

  • Train to provide dredge with accurate surveys and vessel guidance to ensure accurate production measurements and correct location of channel, as per contract

  • Train to provide hydrographic surveys required for project monitoring and payment quantities

  • Assist in maintaining accurate documentation of survey activities

  • Develop understanding of survey activities

  • Provide daily support of dredge procurement requirements

  • Assist in the generation of daily reports and assembly and maintenance of proper job records

  • Provide support in the maintenance of vehicle and equipment assigned to project

  Qualifications

  Internship opportunity for candidates with target backgrounds in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Ocean Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technology, Geomatics, Marine Science Technology, or similar field of study

  • Proficient skills in standard office software packages

  • Ability to be trained to utilize current surveying equipment and techniques

  • Willingness and ability to travel required

  • Ability to work 84-hour work week. 19 days on, 9 days off, revised as necessary

  • Ability to live aboard vessel for full rotation

  Required Certifications or Licenses

  • Driver’s license with clean driving record

  Physical Requirements

  • Must successfully complete pass a post-offer physical

  • Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels

  • Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend, sit or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders

  • Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies, and parts, up to 50 lbs. unassisted

  Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.

  Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.

  Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.

  May work at various different locations and conditions may vary.
