The Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State (OSS) is committed to an inclusive work environment that values each employee and reflects the communities we serve. The DEAI Coordinator will serve as a champion for building cultural awareness and advancing the Office‘s DEAI initiatives and programs in collaboration with the DEAI Committee, Human Resources, the Senior Leadership Team, and OSS‘s managers and supervisors. This position will provide expert recommendations, consultation, and training to promote DEAI within OSS and also work to strengthen DEAI efforts externally with Minnesotans served by the OSS. This position will coordinate the development and implementation of the OSS‘s recruitment and retention strategies.This position will provide project management, direction, development, training, and technical expertise to assist the office with implementing DEAI plans and objectives set forth by the Office‘s DEAI Committee.
This position will have the option of teleworking; however, it will be based on the business needs of the unit and is at supervisory discretion and would most likely be a hybrid schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
At least two years of professional level experience with diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion initiatives within organizations. *A Master‘s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Public Relations or a related field substitutes for 18 months of experience, OR a related Bachelor‘s degree substitutes for 1 year, OR a related Associate‘s substitutes for 6 months.
Applicants who meet the above experience requirements will be further evaluated based on their knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
Interpersonal skills to effectively engage and coach staff and organization leadership on DEI issues and opportunities.
Demonstrated experience with project management bringing a goal or an idea to completion.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively deliver presentations, trainings, and office-wide communications.
Human relation skills to work collaboratively with others, deal effectively with individuals with conflicting perspectives and interests, and develop effective working relationships with customers.
Experience in researching diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion trends to identify and implement best practices.
Experience working with diverse communities.
Experience facilitating sensitive conversations with empathy and leadership when dealing with individuals or groups who have conflicting feelings and perspectives.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Public Relations or a related field.
Other DEI Certifications such as the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) Qualified Administrator certification or accredited professional development DEI certifications.
Experience using qualitative and quantitative analytic data to create tracking strategies, metrics, and reporting systems to measure DEI impact.
An understanding of the role and operation of state government in building infrastructure.
Experience leading and managing large scale projects.
