Position Summary
We are looking for Distribution Controller based at our Brampton office reporting into the Head of Operations Finance . This role will be responsible for working with senior leaders within the Operations function and collaborating with Finance and Business Units. You’ll be responsible for planning and reporting, providing financial analysis and insights on highly strategic projects, and leading continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the cost evolution of distribution. This position is responsible for a network that supplies over $1.5 billion in revenues and controls costs of $0.2 billion. You will also have the leadership opportunity to coach, mentor, and manage a team of direct reports.
A day in the life of a Distribution Controller
In this critical and highly visible role as a Distribution Controller, you will serve as a true business partner and advisor to the Physical Logistics & Customer Service/Customer Facing leadership team, providing strategic evaluation and execution of the dynamic business model for Distribution. Your financial leadership will guide sound business decision-making. Your business acumen coupled with outstanding financial expertise will help translate and balance business needs with the operational capabilities and achievement of the financial objectives.
You will also:
Business Planning & Modeling:
Drive execution of the Supply Chain strategy collaborating with production sites and Supply Chain management.
Contribute to evaluation of customer supply models by ensuring cost transparency of new strategies.
Provide short-range and long-range forecasts as well as emerging opportunities and risks.
Perform simulations including modeling of physical and financial flows related to logistics.
Report and interpret monthly results and communicate key performance indicators for decision-making.
Perform ad hoc cost analysis to support business needs.
Continuous Improvement and Efficiency:
Identify and drive cost improvement opportunities, actively contributing to projects and initiatives.
Validate, review, and track savings (OPEX) while challenging assumptions for cost improvements based on internal and external benchmark information.
Actively drive continuous improvement activities within the Distribution Centre, ensuring alignment with the business OMP (Operational Master Plan).
Capital Investments and Network Optimization:
Develop and ensure robust evaluations of capital investments and leases within the Distribution network.
Serve as a business and financial advisor in evaluation of strategic initiatives to support long-term organizational ambition.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Identify and drive opportunities for process improvement and simplification in ways of working across the organization to enable expedited decision making.
Drive a clear understanding of financial key figures and costing within Distribution, organizing training sessions for non-specialists.
Conduct external benchmarking studies to identify structural enhancements and provide recommendations to business partners.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
Ensure clear control and visibility of assets and liabilities, including the development, implementation, and compliance with internal controls in areas such as Bad Goods, Supplier contracts/terms, and Finished Goods Stock levels.
Establish a solid and periodic monitoring of the effectiveness of internal controls and appropriately escalate business risks.
Manage routine audit activities in the distribution area to ensure compliance in critical areas such as NAS, Costing Standards, statutory accounting/tax, and OPEX guidelines.
Actively participate in internal and external audits within Distribution
What will make you successful?
Completion of a University Degree in Finance or Business Administration and Accounting.
Professional Designation (CPA/MBA).
8-10 years of progressive collective experience in finance preferably with 2-5 years in cost management/supply chain/manufacturing finance; category or sales finance experience an asset.
CPG or similar industry an asset.
Experience as a people leader, with a strong background in coaching, mentoring, and effectively managing teams.
Excels at stakeholder engagement to understand and align needs, using organization agility to maneuver in a complex organization successfully and rapidly.
Highly collaborative, ability to build strong relationships but also respectfully challenge when needed.
Highly developed leadership competencies in change management, strategic thinking.
Effective communication, ability to distill complex financial data to insights and story.
Mastery in professional/technical competencies such as analytics, relevant business processes, internal control systems, financial modeling, and risk management.
Strong analytical skills and ability to interact with all levels of management and internal/external customers.
