  The anticipated salary range for this role is between $180,000.00 and $220,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

  Role Description

  SMBC is seeking a Director Credit Officer with credit and quantitative skills to analyze the credit risk of corporate finance transactions, primarily in North America, including (but not limited to) asset-backed lending transactions and securitization. The Director main responsibility entails the review of credit applications submitted by the front office(s) and the preparation / presentation of credit analysis comments and recommendations to the management of the Credit Department. The scope of analysis and review includes, but is not limited to, quantitative and qualitative analysis of obligor / counterparty credit risk, transaction structure, terms and conditions, asset class and borrower/servicer/originator considerations, profitability, and relationship strategy.

  Role Objectives

  Analyze various risk elements of credit risk related to proposed transactions and the underlying assets classes, and present written recommendations to the management of the Credit Department

  Coordinate the credit approval process by liaising between the front office(s) and the management of the Credit Department

  Provide guidance, as necessary, to business units to ensure compliance with internal standards

  Manage compliance with internal policies, work flow procedures, regulations, etc.

  Ensure US Regulatory requirements are met with each credit application

  Other credit related works/projects as assigned

  Qualifications and Skills

  Minimum 10 years of experience covering corporate finance and / or structured products

  A deep understanding of corporate financing and superior attention to details, with the ability to quickly identify and address the key risks factors and clearly present complex concepts

  Ability to manage deal volume in a fast-paced environment, including analyzing the credit application and preparing comments / recommendations in a short timeframe

  Ability to adapt to SMBC’s credit philosophy and risk appetite

  Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  Knowledge of securitization / asset-backed lending is helpful, but not required.

  Undergraduate degree in Finance, Business Administration or related fields. MBA/CFA or other professional qualification highly preferred
