Overview
Provides broad leadership and strategic direction for the operations of the outpatient surgery center at DHMC Lebanon. Manages and oversees all personnel, including onboarding, orientation, performance management and termination. Responsible for all aspects of the surgical scheduling processes, ensuring that workflow standardization and maximum efficiencies are met, and for oversight and supervision of all administrative staff. Ensures all quality and safety standards are met, to include the patient’s clinical care along with equipment infrastructure to support providing the best possible care.
Responsibilities
Plans, directs and manages the operations for OSC including prep, intra-op and recovery. Coordinates the daily operation of the department and surgical cases.
In collaboration with the leadership team, develops the operating budget and capital planning; ensuring the department operates within set budgets and achieves all operational goals.
Partners with other staff to verify and distribute monthly Operations Dashboard tracking quality, safety and operations throughput and efficiencies, tracking against budget.
Sustains current knowledge base with CMS, DHHS, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies and payors whose requirements impact OSC operations.
Ensures quality and safety are the main drivers of all surgical, operational and administrative processes.
Responsible for the hiring, training and performance appraisals of all staff. Addresses performance management issues up to and including termination according to policy.
Develops, coordinates and evaluates the orientation program of the department. Promotes personal and professional growth of staff by providing development and educational opportunities. Maintains and promotes a harmonious work environment.
In collaboration with leadership, designs and implements the surgical scheduling workflows including standardized scheduling processes to ensure maximum efficiency and organization.
Responsible for collecting and analyzing data for evaluating and optimizing surgical scheduling, product and equipment purchasing, and overall OSC operations. Uses institutional and benchmarking data for decision making and improvement initiatives.
Develops, maintains and enforces policies and procedures for surgical scheduling, OR operations and all related processes as appropriate.
Role models service excellence expectations and builds essential intra- and inter- departmental partnerships that support organizational goals. Serves as primary liaison with clinical teams and surgical areas concerning surgical scheduling and all other administrative needs.
In collaboration with leadership, develops and maintains master operating room block schedules. Manages block scheduling assignments; including changes resulting from exchanges of block allocation, permanent and temporary block reassignments and opening and closing of operating and procedural rooms as appropriate. Ensures decision making is based upon concise and factual information.
Contributes to the Perioperative Services strategic planning process. Works with leadership teams to ensure ongoing growth and commitment to organization’s missions and goals.
Works with all departments, surgical service lines and other key stakeholders to maximize efficient utilization of OSC and procedural capacity and resources.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field with 5 years of experience in surgical services, preferably OR nursing required.
Master's degree MHA, MSN, MBA, or related field preferred
Three years of leadership experience required
Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) preferred
Certified Surgical Services Manager (CSSM) preferred
Demonstrated abilities with problem solving, leadership, communication, fiscal responsibility and teamwork.
Required Licensure/Certifications
Licensed Registered Nurse with NH eligibility
ACLS within 6 months of hire or transfer
PALS within 6 months of hire or transfer
