  Global Communities seeks a Director of Risk Management (DRM) to lead our Enterprise Risk Management program and ensure that our organization is able to effectively identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with our operations and programs worldwide. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Risk Management will be responsible for developing and implementing risk management strategies and policies to ensure the safety and security of our staff, assets, partners and communities.

  This role is designed to support Global Communities’ commitment to organizational excellence which includes effectively managing risks, including reputational, financial, and operational, based on the Global Communities risk taxonomy. By designing and delivering a coordinated risk management program that will strengthen our effectiveness, ensure accountability, and promote transparency to our participants, communities, and clients, we will ultimately be better placed to realize our mission.Lead the organization's crisis management and business continuity planning efforts, including the development and testing of contingency plan and serve as the primary point of contact for risk management-related inquiries and issues, both internally and externally

  The DRM will strengthen and promote a risk management culture across the organization and design policies, practices, and procedures to support robust risk management mitigation strategies with a diverse set of key stakeholders across the global organization.

  The role works in consultation with other key internal stakeholders across the organization including in Global Programs, Finance, People & Culture, Communications, IT, Safety & Security and Grants & Contracts offices.

  Responsibilities

  Responsibility Area : Enterprise Risk Management

  Following the framework established by the Senior Executive Team, design, develop, implement, and manage a risk management framework that aligns with Global Communities’ mission, vision and values.

  Ensure risk management considerations are integrated into decision-making, planning, resource development and allocation, monitoring, and evaluation, reporting and contingency activities across the organization, in collaboration with relevant teams and stakeholders.

  Design risk mitigation polices, best practices and procedures to analyze and address organizational risks, ensuring compliance with industry standards.

  Build and maintain relationships with those responsible for managing risk throughout the organization.

  Provide training, support, and guidance to staff on risk management core competencies, best practices and procedures and to build a culture of risk mitigation.

  Oversee enterprise risk management ownership within respective lines of accountability

  Represent organization externally in all relevant external risk management related forums with intent to share information, best practices, and to help inform the development of risk policy and practices.

  Responsibility Area: Reporting, Monitoring, Evaluation

  Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the overall risk management program, making recommendations for improvement as needed.

  Establish risk register tools for analyzing and prioritizing risks and planning mitigation measures at the overall organizational, functional, and country level.

  As the ERM process matures, lead the design and acquisition efforts of an ERM system

  Create a systematic monitoring and review process to ensure good implementation and feedback loop that supports continuous improvement; update related risk guidance, trainings, tools, etc. as needed.

  Design a risk governance model to include a Risk Council that will support the Board, and Senior Executive Team in their ability to make informed decisions regarding the organization’s risk tolerance and provide regular updates to senior management and the board of directors on the organization's risk profile and risk management activities.

  Develop standard operating procedures for all risk management related policies and procedures.

  Support data collection and reporting on risk assessment/mitigation activities environments for internal stakeholders including Senior Executive Team and key stakeholders with risk ownership responsibilities.

  Coordinate and facilitate periodic risk reviews with the Board, organizational functional experts and management to identify key organizational risks and opportunities and to design appropriate responses.

  Review all internal and external audit reports and consider findings for updated internal controls, tools and risk register.

  Provide risk reports to Senior Executive Team and other leaders in Global Communities.

  Draft risk reports to Board of Trustees, for approval by COO/EVP and CEO.

  Responsibility Area: Training and Development

  Promote a culture of risk management across the organization.

  Create and develop training and orientation program to support adoption of risk management practices and principles.

  Identify training and education opportunities, and coordinate

  Identify and cultivate risk champions at the country program level, to support mainstreaming of risk management approaches in field operations.

  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  Ability to resolve complex issues, build solid relationships and deliver outcomes.

  Ability to employ analytical, problem-solving skills, exercise sound judgment and form objective conclusions and actionable recommendations based on data other pertinent information.

  Excellent relationship management skills with ability to influence and get buy-in from people not under direct supervision and to work with individuals in diverse geographical and cultural settings.

  Deep understanding of risk management principles and best practices for international development implementers, and experience implementing risk management practices and/or managing risk in complex and/or conflict related environments.

  Knowledge of and familiarity with US government donor requirements including, specifically USAID and BHA.

  Persuasive and engaging communication, presentation, and facilitation skills to clearly convey objectives to diverse audiences and stakeholders

  Strong attention to detail, organized and self-directed. Proven ability to set priorities and meet critical goals. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and under minimal supervision.

  Superior oral and written communication skills. Fluency in English. Fluency in another language (Arabic, French, Spanish) encouraged.

  Ability to work extended hours to meet deadlines and respond to the needs of global workforce, as appropriate.

  Experience in conducting trainings and developing staff both in the United States and overseas

  Occasional international and domestic travel may be required. International travel may be up to 15% of the time

  Qualifications

  Undergraduate degree in a related discipline and a minimum of eight years of related work experience or a minimum of 12 years of related work experience.

  Demonstrated experience developing and executing complex initiatives across global, culturally, and geographically diverse offices

  Experience working in an international development/NGO environment required.

  Experience living and working in non-US setting.

  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written & verbal, including the ability to communicate across cultures and levels within the organization

  Ability to create and sustain strong working relationships

  Location and Work Schedule

  This selected candidate can be based in Silver Spring, MD. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without any restriction.This role is on a hybrid/telework schedule. The selected candidate is expected to work at least twice as week (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) from either our San Diego or Silver Spring office and the remainder of the week from an approved remote location.

  Salary and Compensation

  The estimated salary for this position is between $113,902-156,615. Final salary will be based on several factors including qualifications, geographic location, experience, and internal equity. Global Communities provides a comprehensive benefits package; please note that this position is not eligible for allowances.
