USC’s Marshall School of Business is seeking aDirector, Peter Arkley Institute for Risk Management to join its department.
The Director, Peter Arkley Institute for Risk Management will oversee and develop marketing strategies, to promote the emphasis and minor degrees in risk management, risk management courses, institute events and activities to students by engaging career advisers, academic advisers, faculty, and other staff in departments and schools across campus.
The Director, Peter Arkley Institute for Risk Management is a newly created position to expand and promote engagements with local high schools to educate high school students about risk management concepts and professional opportunities in the risk management industry, while collaborating with external risk management industries to plan recruiting and professional development activities, including domestic and international travel opportunities for students and job shadow days.
Responsibilities and Duties
Develops strategies for marketing and promoting the Emphasis and Minor degrees in Risk Management, risk management courses, and Institute events and activities to students by engaging career advisers, academic advisers, faculty, and other staff in departments and schools across campus.
Engages with industry to plan industry- and firm-specific recruiting and professional development activities, including domestic and international travel opportunities for students and job shadow days. Gathers, monitors, and distributes to student's risk management-related career, professional development, and scholarship opportunities.
Engages with risk management students by offering career advice, reviewing resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles, and providing advice to student groups, including the Gamma Iota Sigma chapter.
Oversees the Institute’s Associate Director’s execution of the Risk Management Minor and Emphasis Mentorship Program and the Meet the Risk Management Professionals networking and recruiting event each semester.
Assists the Institute’s Executive Director in executing the Emerging Leaders Program, a five-day session on USC’s campus each May, with diverse students from USC and several other universities, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and any other academic symposia, speaker series, webinars, or related events.
Develops and executes strategy for engagement with local high schools to educate high school students about risk management concepts and professional opportunities in the risk management industry.
Supports the Institute’s Executive Director in engaging with the Institute’s governing bodies, including the industry professionals serving on the Advisory Board, the Advisory Council, the Trailblazers Council, and other ad hoc committees.
Serves as a key resource for Institute information. Responds to questions referred by administrators and other staff and interfaces with faculty, staff, students, and external parties regarding Institute’s offerings.
Provides input to the Institute’s Executive Director on the development of program budgets and recommends budgetary and resource allocations for professional development activities and other student programming. Monitors such expenditures (e.g., catering) for adherence to budget guidelines and analyzes for cost effectiveness.
Promotes an environment that fosters inclusive relationships and creates unbiased opportunities for contributions through ideas, words, and actions that uphold principles of the USC Integrity and Accountability Code.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree in counseling, higher education, human resources or related fields.
Ten or more years' experience in corporate and/or higher education institutions, with supervisory/managerial experience.
Excellent leadership and guidance skills, with demonstrated ability to manage, balance and prioritize different tasks and projects. In depth knowledge of federal immigration regulation, interpreting and providing guidance as to the pertinent of international students.
Advanced knowledge of employer recruiting strategies, job market trends, and occupational, career, and employment information sources.
Preferred Education
Master’s degree in education-related fieldPreferred Field of Expertise
At-least one and a half years directly related professional experience in risk management industry or related field. Fifteen years’ directly related experience in academic sector. Excellent verbal communication skills and writing skills. Details-oriented. Ability to analyze information and problem-solve. Strong work ethic.
Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities. Strong project management experience. Proficient technology skills. Demonstrated experience interacting with diverse groups, exercising diplomacy, good judgment, and discretion. A team player.
Demonstrated experience with office management communication software and tools (e.g., Microsoft Office suite, Google suite, Zoom) and social media management (e.g., LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook). Proficient with Canva and/or Adobe Creative software. Demonstrated experience managing multi-platform communications and marketing plans involving publications, videos, websites, social media, and public speeches and presentations.
Anticipated Hiring Range:
The annual base salary range for this position is$127,766.29 - $143,942.93.When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
