About Director of Student Diversity and Inclusion

  Summary

  The Director of Student Diversity and Inclusion provides leadership and administrative oversight of the planning and implementation of co-curricular diversity initiatives. The Director of Student Diversity and Inclusion, with assistance from student employees, executes diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives that enhance the residential experience and promote a sense of belongingness among underrepresented students. The Director of OSDI is a member of the Campus Life and Engagement team which also includes the Office of Leadership Activities and the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life. The Director of OSDI reports directly to the Assistant/Associate Dean of Student Affairs for Inclusion and Engagement.

  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  Support diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives on behalf of, and within the Student Affairs Division. Collaborate with campus partners to provide engagement opportunities for students that align with the College’s commitment to provide a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment that supports students from underrepresented populations.

  Coordinate the planning and implementation of co-curricular opportunities that meet the needs of marginalized populations, including, but not limited to students of color, LGBTQ+ students, international students and first-generation students.

  Assist the Assistant/Associate Dean of Student Affairs for Inclusion and Engagement with research, benchmarking, development and implementation of DEI initiatives. Conduct regular assessment to determine the effectiveness of DEI initiatives and to inform on DEI student needs.

  Advise student organizations that promote DEI awareness, understanding and affinity in collaboration the Office of Leadership Activities and Student Government Association. Examples include the Black Student Union, Hayat, Raices, Skidmore Pride Alliance and Ujima.

  As a member of the Residential Experience Team, collaborate with colleagues from Residential Life, Student Conduct, Student Success and other Campus Life and Engagement team members to partner on initiatives that enhance the student residential experience.

  Collaborate with colleagues in the Division of Student Affairs, including the Career Development Center, Athletics, Health and Wellness and Student Academic Services, to support students and provide accessible opportunities for DEI education and engagement.

  Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Office of Student Diversity and Equity. Manage fiscal resources and student personnel to implement sustainable DEI initiatives that meet institutional/divisional goals. Supervise Student Diversity Assistants.

  Coordinate efforts with campus partners including, but not limited to, Opportunity Programs, the Wyckoff Center, Black Studies, Intergroup Relations, Academic Affairs, the VP for Strategic Planning and Diversity, etc. to provide the most comprehensive support to students.

  Coordinate efforts with partners such as Campus Safety, Facilities and Dining to execute OSDI programmatic efforts.

  Serve on campus committees as appropriate and/or relevant to duties (e.g., Bias Response Group).

  Serve as a mandatory reporter (Clery Act) and responsible employee (Title IX) and report related incidents according to federal mandates and university policies.

  Participate in services, activities and programs within the department, division, and institution, as needed, which may occur in the evening and on weekends.

  Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  Education: Master’s Degree, Higher Education Administration or related field

  Experience: 3+ years in Higher Education

  Experience with program development and assessment

  Significant, direct experience with the development and implementation of DEI initiatives

  Ability to multi-task and designate accordingly

  Ability to direct and motivate student leaders

  Ability to build positive and effective relationships across the campus and community

  Pay range: $65,000 - $75,000
