  The Role

  The Director of IT, Internal Network Services (INS) is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of the internal network infrastructure and services for Lumen. The Director will lead a tight-knit group consisting of multiple leaders and teams covering all internal network functions, in addition to directly leading network engineering and architecture resources. This larger INS team ensures the availability, security, and performance of multiple data centers, WAN connectivity, and corporate offices user network space. The Director will also collaborate with other IT leaders and stakeholders to align the network strategy with the business goals and objectives, bringing to bear leading edge architecture and technologies in a hybrid environment.

  The Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the network strategy, roadmap, and budget for the internal network services.

  • Manage and supervise the network team, including hiring, training, evaluation, and development of employees and contractors across different teams and locations.

  • Ensure the availability, reliability, security, and scalability of the network infrastructure and services.

  • Plan and implement network projects, upgrades, migrations, and expansions.

  • Automate and modernize network services to simplify management and drive efficiencies.

  • Manage and design advanced hybrid and data center network fabrics.

  • Establish and enforce network policies, standards, and best practices.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with other IT teams and business units on network-related issues and initiatives.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to the network team and other IT staff.

  • Oversee and conduct network assessments, performance analysis, testing, and optimization.

  • Mobilize a team response to troubleshoot network incidents / problems and drive both resolution and root cause analysis in a timely manner.

  • Report on network status, metrics, and KPIs.

  • Oversee documentation initiatives including architectural diagrams, standards, As-built’s, etc.

  • Keep abreast of the latest network trends, technologies, and innovations.

  • Build, motivate, develop, inspire, and retain teams that collaborate cross-functionally across multiple organizations and teams to enhance the overall customer experience, ensuring exceptional service and proactive support.

  • Directly manage the top engineering and architecture talent, and provide them with feedback, coaching, and recognition.

  • Cultivate a culture of partnership, servant leadership, service excellence, customer service, employee satisfaction, continuous improvement, and fun.

  What We Look For in a Candidate

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • At least 10 years of experience in network engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

  • Expert knowledge of network technologies, protocols, and standards, such as TCP/IP, LAN, Cisco ACI, WAN, Wireless, MPLS, SD-WAN, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VPN, QoS, etc.

  • Experience with network enterprise architecture, design, and optimization for large-scale nation-wide enterprise data centers and user environments.

  • Experience with network security, compliance, and risk management.

  • Experience with network monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance analysis tools.

  • Experience with network automation, orchestration, and configuration management tools, such as Ansible, Python, Puppet, Chef, etc.

  • Experience with cloud networking and hybrid solutions, such as Azure, Google Cloud, AWS, etc.

  • Experience with Cisco, Juniper, and Aruba gear, among many other leading vendor solutions.

  • Experience with Load Balancing solutions such as Citrix NetScaler.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong leadership, management, and mentoring skills.

  • Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent are preferred.

  Compensation

  The starting salary for this role differs based on the employee's primary work location. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual's qualifications.

  Location Based Pay Ranges

  $128310 - $171080 in these states: AR, ID, KY, LA, ME, MS, NE, SC, and SD.

  $135060 - $180080 in these states: AZ, AL, FL, GA, IN, IA, KS, MO, MT, NM, ND, OH, OK, PA, TN, UT, VT, WV, WI, and WY.

  $141820 - $189090 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NV, NH, NC, OR, and RI.

  $148570 - $198090 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DE, DC, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.

  As with the pay range variety that's based on the region of a country, specific offers are determined by various factors such as experience, education, skills, certifications and other business needs.

  This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

  This position is eligible for either short-term incentives or sales compensation. Director and VP positions also are eligible for long-term incentive.
