The Department of Facilities, Safety & Physical Plant at the State University of New York at Oneonta invites applications for the position ofDirector of Environmental Health & Safety. Expectations include, but are not limited to, performing duties as the director of environmental health and safety programs, conducting training of faculty, staff and students as required in safety programs, participation in inspections with regulatory agencies, code enforcement support, review of construction drawings and specifications, and oversight of chemical hygiene programs.
The Office of Facilities, Safety & Physical Plant is responsible for energy management, plant operations, space management, maintenance, custodial services and environmental health and safety across all the university's buildings and grounds, comprising 2.4 million square feet of space. The Office is also responsible for all capital planning and construction on campus. The Environmental Health & Safety office has 2 full-time and seasonal staff. Its mission is to ensure university compliance with all applicable code's rules and regulations. It is also responsible to educate students, faculty, and staff on best practices regarding occupational safety and hygiene, fire prevention and safety, life safety and building codes. The office works across all divisions and touches all aspects of the University.

Duties include but are not limited to:
Overall responsibility for campus environmental health and safety compliance programs
Oversight of chemical hygiene program, convening campus safety committees, safety training needs assessments, developing and conducting training for faculty, staff and students as required in safety programs
Composition of safety training manuals
Ensuring that life safety devices are in working order, participating in inspections with regulatory agencies as well as campus inspections
Code enforcement support
Emergency response
Review of construction drawings and specifications
Recommending projects to improve safety and environmental compliance, coordinating hazardous waste removal
Accident investigation

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, environmental science, or the physical sciences
Seven years' experience as an environmental health and safety professional.
Experience managing budgets and training personnel.
Experience working with shared leadership via cross-functional teams.
Effective written communication and presentation skills
Ability to work with minimum supervision.
Able to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Valid New York State Driver's license
Preferred:
Master's degree in environmental science, industrial hygiene, or environmental health & safety.
Five years' experience as an environmental health and safety professional in a campus setting.
Experience with sustainable operations
Experience enforcing environmental health and safety regulations in an operational/supervisory capacity
Experience developing EH&S Curriculum,
One or more licenses or certifications in the safety field such as Certified Safety Professional, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager or Certified Chemical Hygiene officer
Experience working with and serving diverse populations.
