First Mode builds hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), battery electric vehicle (BEV), hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) powerplants to retrofit mine haul trucks, rail and industrial applications.We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-orientated Director of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) to develop, implement, supervise, monitor, advise and intervene on compliance regarding all relevant legislative, regulatory and policy for people and process safety, environmental and health affairs. The successful candidate will facilitate a culture of safety and well-being amongst all First Mode employees. This role will dictate a unified approach across R&D, Engineering, Supply Chain, Hardware Manufacturing and Field Operations leaders to structure EHS as primary culture, discipline, driver and metric across the organization.As the Director of EHS, you will oversee and maintain all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, training, and day-to-day needs. We are looking for someone who is passionate about safety, a great communicator, has built Safety cultures in fast paced multi-regional startup environments and always operates with a positive mindset to help us scale clean energy hardware!Position ResponsibilitiesDevelop own and maintain the First Mode EHS Management System. Including EHS strategies, policies, and procedures maintaining compliance with First Mode corporate values, regulations and standards (including but not limited to ISO 45001/14001 intent and potential certification)Implement and execute lean principals, tactile evacuation, and risk mitigation plans and programs across all R&D, Hardware Manufacturing, Proving Ground and Field Manufacturing Operations site by cross-collaborating with diverse teamsWork closely with the Hardware Manufacturing (high voltage factory operations) and Field Manufacturing Operations (active mine sites) permit teams to ensure a unified approach and resulting in full compliance with respective regulatory bodies across all First Mode sitesDesign and implement safety training and safety tracking programs, and employee certificationsDesign and implement safety training and safety tracking programs, and employee certificationsLead EHS workshops (HAZID/OP, Risk assessment, Bowtie, LOPA etc)Ensure company safety records/MSDS/documentation are correct and up-to-dateLead investigations of occupational incidents and drive a safety first cultureDevelop, maintain and execute a First Mode safety committee (both internal to First Mode and where appropriate externally within customer teams) to drive continuous improvementConduct regulatory and internal audits to assess compliance levels, recommend corrective actions, and maintain appropriate documentationInspect facilities for existing and potential accident risks and health hazards, recommend and ensure implementation of preventive measuresUnderstanding 3 levels deep the intent of all EHS policy and procedures - player/manager.Perform other related duties as assigned
