Who You Are:
As a Director of Design, you are an expert in your practice of design and experience; and you act as a strategic thought leader to clients in their digital transformation journey. You are a vital member of our leadership team throughout the entire lifecycle: pre-sales, discovery and planning, and delivery engagements, providing services like:
UX strategy
User research (qualitative and quantitative)
User journey mapping/analysis
Rapid prototyping and usability testing
Heuristic evaluation
Experience Workshop Design and Facilitation
Design thinking
Enterprise-level web and mobile app design
You can lead strategic conversations and run various formats of presentations (user research, discovery sessions, webinars, design thinking workshops) with clients at the executive C-suite level. In addition, you will shape the overall creative direction of the work that we produce. In addition, the Director of Design is responsible for ensuring that the work fully aligns itself with our overall business and UX strategies. The perfect candidate is driven by a strong desire to elevate our brand, design award-winning digital products, and deliver remarkable experiences to our clients and staff.
What you will be doing:
Prepare, lead, and participate in executive strategic conversations with a C-Suite level in the pre-sales engagements of a client journey. This involves scoping out new project requirements, hosting discovery and planning sessions, determining UX strategies, conducting user research (qualitative and quantitative) and user journey mapping/analysis, conducting rapid prototyping and usability testing, running and facilitating design thinking workshops, and hosting webinars.
Act as a thought leader (running webinars, running articles, doing podcasts and video interviews, presenting at conferences) and subject matter expert in experience design, providing strategic consultative services to existing and prospective clients
Evangelize a customer-centric approach to digital product/platform design
Establish design processes/systems in an emerging organization that is growing quickly
Communicate with both the business and technical sides of the operation
Create the vision for end-user engagement for a compelling user experience
Operate strategically and tactically to help deliver the next paradigm in customer experience
Create the visual design definition, direction, and consistency of applications for multiple display devices
Drive the definition of UX/UI across multiple application types, inclusive of web, iOS, Android, voice, and XR
Work closely with the project/product managers to drive the product from the creation of UX and design concepts to the final launch, as well as post-launch monitoring and analysis
Interface with architecture, engineering, and quality assurance staff
Work with sales support to ensure demos are reflective of prospective brands and themes
Interact with Aequilibrium’s clients for user experience feedback and ideas
Must Have:
Professional services experience in technology: 8+ years of experience in user experience design for both web and mobile native applications that leverage emergent technologies, consumer electronics, and mobile devices
A comprehensive background in digital product strategy and design
Strong pre-sales experience in the client journey such as scoping out a new project, preparing for planning sessions (agenda, format, questions), running design thinking workshops, and webinars.
Experience building out and taking part in pitches and client engagements, from discovery and planning to rapid prototyping and usability testing, to web/mobile app UI and UX design
Experience interacting with user groups/advisory boards
Strong understanding of Agile methodology/SDLC
Ability to create wireframes as well as visual design comps
Expert knowledge of mobile app design principles for both iOS/Apple and Android/Google
Proficient with user interface design patterns and standard UCD methodologies
Knowledge of design tools such as Balsamiq, Photoshop, XD, and Sketch
Nice to Have:
Design in financial services background is a plus
Digital design for digital banking platforms. Working with digital platforms and their design systems.
Design for emerging technologies like XR/Metaverse is a plus
Reporting Manager:
Directly reports to the CEO
Education :
Bachelor's degree in design or related field, or equivalent combination of education and 10+ years of experience. Advanced education is a plus.
Strong English communication skills (written and verbal).
Compensation:
The typical salary range for this position is: CAD $130K - $150K annually. Salary offered will be based on skills, experience, and market data.
