Description
BridgeValley Community and Technical College invites applications for the Director of Counseling/Accessibility and Support Services. Reporting to the Dean of Students. The general purpose of Director of Counseling/Accessibility and Support Services position is to oversee all efforts in the departments of Collegiate Recovery, Testing, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and AmeriCorps. The Director of Counseling and Support Services supervises staff members in all the above departments and is responsible for counseling students and managing day-to-day operations of Accessibility Services. The Director will provide personal counseling as needed. Refer students as needed to local and state support agencies and access and success to students with disabilities and to provide for a supportive collegiate environment that allows the student to persist to the point of reaching their specific academic goals.
The Director will coordinate individual and group counseling services that support current community college students in meeting their personal, educational, and academic goals. The Director will Administer Accessibility Services intake and accommodation procedures and provide professional case management services to a diverse population of students with disabilities attending BridgeValley. The Director will conduct classroom workshops and tabling events for students’ personal and professional development. In addition to facilitating student access/success and accommodations, the Director provides consultation and support to faculty and staff regarding strategies and methods for meeting the unique needs of this student population. This position is non-classified, full-time, and benefits eligible. The salary range for this position is 39,500-63,300. Actual offer will be commensurate with education and experience.
Examples of Duties
Provide short-term counseling services; oversee center activities and the delivery of services.
Provide crisis intervention for students and give support to faculty and professional staff.
Conduct crisis debriefings and workshops for campus community after tragic events.
Work closely with the Dean of Students when the Dean's office is dealing with a student experiencing mental health distress.
• Develop and maintain referral network for therapeutic and emergency services with area clinicians, mental health clinics, hospitals.
• Develop, implement, and maintain the effectiveness of overall programs surrounding counseling, accessibility services collegiate recovery and TANF. Provide student awareness activities in support of suicide awareness, tobacco use, alcohol abuse, depression, and anxiety.
• Monitor counseling of students through coordination of services and referral to outside agencies when necessary. Assist in coordination of care for students after hospitalizations and mandated assessments by the college.
• Assess, formulate and administer departmental policies and procedures to insure efficient operation of the center and delivery of services. Develop, prepare, and administer departmental budget.
• Provide professional development workshops on mental health issues for applicable staff, student leaders (e.g. SGA, Student Ambassadors) and faculty, and provide on-going consultation for staff, administrators, and faculty regarding student psychological matters as needed.
• Participate in professional training to develop knowledge and expertise in current mental health and legal trends on college campuses.
• Provide supervision and guidance to the Accessibility Services Office as well as the Collegiate Recovery Office.
• Serve as the Chair for the College’s Campus Assessment Response Evaluation and Solution team (CARES).
Responsible for planning, organizing, conducting, and directing activities/initiatives for the accessibility services program. Including but not limited to:
Develop academic goal plans for students with disabilities
Provide appropriate counseling to students with disabilities
Review documentation and grant appropriate accommodations
Provide training to faculty/staff
Work with the Testing Coordinator to schedule and administer tests on a daily basis
Assist with intrusive retention programs and services on campus that support student retention efforts
Assist with the hiring and supervision of interpreters and note takers as well as assist with the recruitment of students with disabilities
Responsible for providing semester/annual reports to the Dean of Students.
Direct and supervise the TANF program and counselors to ensure student and program success.
Prepare and submit reports as needed for the TANF grant to DHHR
Direct and supervise tutoring services to ensure student and program success.
Other Duties as assigned.
This position may require travel and flexible hours. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree with a preference for major in Counseling, Student Personnel (Guidance and Counseling), Social Work, Psychology, Education, or related field.
4+ years of related experience
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Strong people skills
Computer Skills
Ability to work as an effective team member
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Strong skills in setting priorities, organization, and time management
Higher Education experience/Community College is preferred
