About Director of Communications - Data Platform and Growth (DPG) Team

  The D ata Platform and G rowth (DPG) team has a three-fold charter focused on building key products for the M365 suite, driving strategic growth initiatives for the Experiences + Devices (E+D) group, and managing the digital experience for all of Microsoft’s employees. On the product side, our organization’s scope spans the development of Microsoft Viva, Engage (formerly known as Yammer), and the IDEAs data platform. DPG is also home to the FastTrack organization, which drives customer success and growth of Microsoft 365 products, and the E+D Strategy and M&A Team. Finally, the Microsoft Digital Team shapes the digital experience for Microsoft’s 200K employees around the world.

  Director of Communications- D ata Platform and G rowth (DPG) team

  DPG is a unique organization whose charter spans business, product and strategy – and this role offers ring-side seats to help shape the trajectory of E+D’s $100 Billion business. You should have a deep sense of intellectual curiosity to learn how commercial Software as a Service (Saas) products are built, shipped, and sold at-scale. You are an effective communicator – orally and written, have a very high attention to detail, and can proactively drive multiple large-scale programs / projects in parallel. You are also comfortable independently dealing with executives (typically at the Corporate Vice President (CVP) level and broader team members, collaborating effectively with them while also holding your own, and respectfully disagreeing where needed.

  This role will report into the Chief of Staff ( CoS ) and be accountable for communication strategy and execution across DPG . The role will work in close partnership with the executive office, the Chief Operations Officer-CVP of DPG, and the Leadership Team to shape, run, and manage multiple business critical programs and Rhythms of Business ( RoBs ) for the organization. This individual will also be responsible for driving end-to-end internal and external engagement, including identifying the target audience, clarifying the narrative, and executing the optimal communication strategy. This opportunity will allow you to develop business and product strategy acumen, hone exec communication skills and influence the trajectory of a 4000+ person global organization. A typical candidate would be someone who wants to transition into Product Management and/or a Chief of Staff role in the future.

  Responsibilities

  Drive communication planning and strategy, in partnership with the COO-CVP and the CoS.Diligently maintain robust workbacks for major programs and events, ensuring Chief of Staff and COO-CVP have visibility and sufficient time to provide input.

  Collaborate across teams to develop and drive story telling opportunities using data and insights. Uses expertise to lead and influence teams on determining format, story, and narrative arc to tell the story in the most compelling and authentic manner to the target audience.

  Outline and craft deliverables for vision memos, materials for org-wide All Hands, and key customer engagement, leveraging internal and external resources as needed. Lead, ownand manage the agency / designer budget and relationships.

  Craft high-quality deliverables (PowerPoint decks, whitepapers, update emails) that can synthesize the top priorities of the organization and communicate the strategic vision with an inspiring narrative. Monitor and analyze the impact of messaging for a given issue, then create responses as needed across internal /or external channels.

  Develop trusted relationships and lead the collaboration across the exec office team, the DPG Leadership Team, and other teams (Engineering, Sales, Marketing, HR and Finance) to ensure programs are rigorously and executed efficiently.

  Define and live the best practices onlanding and communicating plans, such as the target audience(s) and communication strategy. Lead the rhythm of business (ROB) during plan execution to ensure participants and stakeholders are appropriately engaged.

  Support the CoS in working with customer account teams and internal stakeholders (product, engineering, field/sales and marketing) to orchestrate COO-CVP engagement programs with customers and the investor community.

  Qualifications

  Required/Minimum Qaulifications:

  Bachelor's Degree in Business, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 6+ years Communications, Product Marketing, Marketing Operations, Field Operations, Program Management, Project Management, or related experienceo OR equivalent experience.

  4+ years work experience creating high-quality deliverables (such as PowerPoint decks, whitepapers, update emails, memos) for executive level (Vice President+) audiences.Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 8+ years Communications, Marketing Operations, Field Operations, Program Management, Project Management, or related experience

  OR Master's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 6+ years Communications, Marketing Operations, Field Operations, Program Management, Project Management, or related experience

  OR equivalent experience.

  6+ years work experience in program management, product marketing, business planning, strategy consulting, business operations.

  4+ years demonstrated experience directly supporting executive leadership teams.

  Communications IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 - $242,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 - $264,000 per year.
