About Director, Finance Business Partnering

Job Title: Director of Finance (Finance Business Partnering)

  Location: Leopardstown, Dublin 18

Our people are our greatest strength, are at the core of our culture, and the driving force behind our success. ICON people have a mission to succeed and a passion that ensures what we do, we do well.

At ICON, we have an incredible opportunity for a Finance Director within our Business Partnering team located out of our Global Head Quarters in Leopardstown, Dublin 18.

The Financial Business Planning group is the service line financial analysis & support function of ICON. The department role is to provide independent, objective financial and consulting services designed to add value, direction and leadership to assist the business in attaining continued success.

The role involves close connectivity with the Business and Operational leadership and teams’ within the ICON Biotech Solutions (IBT) group.

The role is to provide 'real time' support and analysis, to be a trusted adviser and to add value that will assist in decision-making. Critical to their success is an ability to communicate messages, understand the audience and deliver the information in a clear and user-friendly manner. It is this mix of analytical, commercial and communication skills, which are at the heart of successful Finance Business Partnering.

  Key Skills - Communicating

The role sees finance business partners interpreting the raw data and communicating this clearly especially to colleagues outside the finance function in Operations, Business and Executive Leadership; a role which puts them at the heart of the business. The task is to take and collate varying and different data sets, review them, assess their value and then present the findings to the relevant stakeholders in a meaningful way. The opportunity is to become the interface or ‘translator’ between the languages of finance and operations, to tell the story, to paint a compelling picture. Success in this role requires a mix of commercial acumen, analytical skills, an ability to build relationships, to communicate effectively and to persuade.

  Influencing

People skills are critical. The effective finance business partner is adaptable and can deliver the information in a digestible way to their audience, with clarity and appropriate to specific audiences. This is especially important when the message is one the audience may not wish to hear. This is when the finance business partner must challenge, coach and motivate. In addition, successful finance business partners must also be able to identify and win over key stakeholders, to build relationships and persuade in order to achieve their objectives.

It is for this reason that we have put the development of these ‘core business skills’ at the centre of this opportunity, integrating into the DNA of course, as the most effective finance business partners do on a day-to-day basis.

Apply your analytical skills beyond the traditional functions of finance and bring them to bear on a broad range of commercial issues.

The technical skills required for the role are commonplace within finance teams. It is the interpersonal qualities and dynamism required in finance business partner jobs that will set you apart.

  Role responsibilities:

Experienced at managing complex functional areas/business units with multiple service lines/departments.

Expected to contribute to the financial & business strategy in both global and regional environments, which in turn will impact the success of the business unit

Experienced at managing departmental teams around execution of functional activities and process improvements.

Demonstrate exemplary people management and in line with organization policies and procedures

Ability to build strong working relationships with operational business partners.

Actively influence day to day decisions, shaping strategy and the direction of the business

Be the interface or ‘translator’ between finance and operations

Commercially aware, understanding and anticipating the needs of both operations and management

Successful finance business partnering is a way of thinking, at the heart of which is problem-solving

Ability to form and stand over their opinions, have a well-developed sense of ethics and be prepared to stand up for these principles

Comfortable with risk and working with ambiguity

  What you will need:

Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, etc.) or relevant years’ experience

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial analysis or financial analysis and planning.

Experience in managing functional areas, service lines and teams.

Results-focused - understands what is important to senior management and the wider community of employees

A self-confident, decisive personality whose superior interpersonal skills invite participation and engagement through effective communication and the ability to influence and negotiate

An accomplished leader with a reputation for tenacity, determination and professionalism while able to accommodate compromise

A dedicated professional, committed to delivering superior service through having an open disposition and a willingness to listen and learn

Proactive approach to problem identification and problem solving, designed to be one step ahead of others to ensure budgets are met

Ability to work effectively with people at all levels of the organization with the capability to build solid, lasting, trust-based working partnerships.
