The Director of Embedded Processing plays a leadership and senior individual contributor role in our Hardware Engineering group. This group operates on a global scale within the Play Engineering organization in Product Innovation and Design at the LEGO Group. The role is based in Boston, where LEGO Play Engineering is expanding our global footprint to help advance groundbreaking innovations that will redefine the future of play for the builders of tomorrow.

  Core Responsibilities

Lead an engineering team charged with developing embedded microelectronics and their application in sophisticated mechatronic systems that enable one-of-a-kind play experiences.

Demonstrate and champion best practices for engineering, collaboration, innovation, and delivery as we together develop new play experiences at the boundary between the physical and digital worlds.

Work simultaneously with both internal technical staff and external partners to access, assess, and master some of the newest technologies in the field.

Demonstrate exceptional agility and systems thinking involving both hardware and firmware while expertly navigating the complexities of product and platform development.

Lead and review technical design and development activities while collaborating with related team leaders.

Serve as an exceptional people leader to the globally distributed engineers on the Embedded Processing team, providing coaching and mentorship opportunities for professional growth, and supportive feedback to help the team members continue stretching toward their fullest potential.

Do you have what it takes?

A builder with passion for creatively using technology as a vehicle to deliver truly incredible play experiences to children around the world.

An excitement to help build and lead this new team within Hardware Engineering as we accelerate our expansion into the Boston tech community.

12+ years of experience in roles that involved both engineering leadership and individual contributions in robotics/mechatronics, microelectronics, sophisticated systems, or other similar domain.

Hands-on experience leading an embedded product and/or platform development from idea stage to mass production in high volume market (e.g. consumer electronics).

Mastery of embedded systems technology, including capabilities spanning both the hardware and firmware domains, to enable excellent trade-off management/decision-making.

Comfort in navigating interdependencies with related engineering domains (e.g. firmware, sensors/actuators, power management).

Experience with key electronic component providers and manufacturing partners.

Ability to travel roughly 20-30 days per year, as part of our distributed team.

  New Location Update

This position will initially be based at our LEGO Education office at Boylston St, Back Bay, Boston before moving to a new central Boston office location by the end of 2025. Our hiring teams will discuss this with you during the interview stages.
