Job Description
We are excited to recruit the firstDirector of Data Scienceto join our Digital, Informatics, and Technology Solutions (DigITs) division reporting to the Chief Data and Analytics Officer as a member of the Data and Analytics Team.
As Director, you will play a critical role in advancing MSK's data-driven initiatives, leveraging cutting-edge data science techniques to enhance cancer research, patient care, and operational efficiency. Data & Analyticsleads the MSK data strategy aiming to maximize the value and impact of MSK data.
To that end, this leader will grow and support data science capabilities and services at MSK by promoting principled, disciplined data science practices.
As Director, you will be responsible for:
Leadership and Strategy
Provide strategic direction for the future state Data Science team, aligning efforts with organizational goals and priorities.
Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate data science capabilities into MSK's overall strategy.
Team Management
Build then lead and mentor a team of data scientists, ensuring a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Foster professional development and growth among team members.
Serve as a primary mentor and coach to further enhance the community and capabilities of data scientists across MSK
Data Science Innovation
Drive the development and implementation of advanced analytics and machine learning models to extract insights from complex healthcare and research data.
Explore emerging technologies and methodologies to enhance data science capabilities.
Promoting Principled, Disciplined Data Science Practices
Advocate for and enforce principled and disciplined data science practices within the team, emphasizing ethical considerations, transparency, and reproducibility.
Support and enhance a robust data governance framework to ensure the integrity, privacy, and security of sensitive healthcare data.
Project Management
Oversee the planning and execution of data science projects, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality results.
Collaborate with project stakeholders to define requirements and scope.
Communication
Effectively communicate complex data science concepts and findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Present insights and recommendations to senior leadership in a clear and compelling manner.
Advise on statistical/technical aspects of a project or product, including design, analysis, assessment of business conclusions, and reporting and presentation.
Understand and interpret the results and their business implications consulting translating analytic results to business impact.
You have:
6+ years of experience in data science roles, with exposure leading, mentoring, or managing data science team members successfully.
Strong background in developing and deploying machine learning models in a healthcare or research setting.
Proven technical experience and comfort doing hands-on technical work (statistical programming, R, SQL, Python) in addition to a focus on relationship-building, problem-solving, and storytelling.
Experience with healthcare and/or cancer research data, healthcare data privacy, security regulations, and electronic health records (EHR) is highly desirable.
A desire to embrace a culture of excellence, collaboration, and communication within DigITs, and to serve as a trusted and respected Data Science role model across MSK.

Please note this is a hybrid role based at 633 Third Ave in NYC 1-2 times per week with flexibility to travel to our other NYC sites for stakeholder meetings as needed.
