General Job Description
This is a managerial position responsible for functioning within the Division of Academic Affairs to provide university-wide coordination of educator development programs, enhancement of teaching effectiveness, integration of learning technologies into teaching and learning environments, and leadership of distance education initiatives. Responsible for collaborating with administrators, faculty, and staff to advance institutional teaching, learning, technology, educator development, and distance education. Responsible for departmental strategic planning, budget planning and oversight, and management of staff. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Executive Director of Lumberjack Learning Commons.
Essential Job Functions
Oversees long-range planning for and day-to-day operations of the Center for Teaching & Learning ( CTL ).
Collaborates with institutional stakeholders to assess needs, develop programming, and evaluate strategies to enhance faculty teaching effectiveness and promote student learning.
Consults with institutional stakeholders on course/program development and design projects, best practices in pedagogy, and implementation and evaluation of learning technologies.
Builds, leads, and works with a staff dedicated to the design, development, and delivery of quality learning experiences.
Partners with institutional stakeholders to enhance effectiveness in the design and planning of learning environments and distance education programs and courses.
Collaborates with institutional stakeholders to broaden the use of established and emerging technologies.
Coordinates faculty and student support of the use of the institution’s learning management system ( LMS ) and associated technologies.
Ensures CTL stays at the forefront of institutional conversations about teaching and learning.
Recommends and evaluates teaching, learning, technology, and distance education priorities and policies for the university.
Serves as academic liaison in university-wide teaching, learning, technology, and distance education initiatives.
Prepares and administers departmental budget.
Maintains currency of knowledge and skills through professional development activities and independent research.
Non-Essential Job Functions
Advances the university’s role in the state and region as a quality provider of distance education programs.
Advises administration on integrity of distance education programs.
Makes recommendations on all departmental personnel actions.
Prepares grant proposals to secure external funding in support of teaching, learning, technology, and/or distance education initiatives.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to the area of responsibility.
Knowledge of best practices in area of responsibility.
Skill in using computer application including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
Skill in collecting and analyzing complex data.
Organizational skills in managing projects simultaneously while maintaining a satisfactory work product.
Ability to ensure academic quality and integrity of distance education programs.
Ability to implement and evaluate learning technology products and applications in higher education.
Ability to coordinate teaching, learning, technology, and distance education initiatives.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Ability to develop and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
Ability to work collaboratively with administration, faculty, and students to achieve specific goals.
Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget.
Ability to train and supervise others.
Ability to maintain currency of knowledge and skills in teaching and learning research and technological trends.
Physical Demands
Required Education
Master’s degree is required.
Required Experience and Training
Five years of related experience in teaching, learning, or instructional technology environments is required. Post-secondary teaching experience is required. Experience with direct support of faculty and student use of learning management systems is required. Experience in design, implementation, administration, and assessment of instructional programs and/or educator development is required. Staff supervisory experience and demonstrated leadership experience are required.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree is preferred.

Benefit and Retirement Eligibility
This position is eligible for participation in the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ), subject to the position being full-time and at least 4 ½ months in length, or the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
