The Amazon Device and Services Design Group (DDG) is a multidisciplinary design team that is responsible for product UX (e.g. Echo, Fire TV, Fire Tablets, Alexa Mobile), designing future experiences, and establishing a thriving design practice at across all teams at Amazon. DDG is the home of the Amazon Design Excellence Team, whose mission is to make Amazon the best place on Earth to work for designers and creatives by leveraging creativity as a tool to foster community, culture and careers. The Amazon Design Excellence team’s charter is to elevate the impact of design both internally and externally. We believe that a highly motivated and engaged design community will channel the best design outcomes and solutions for our customers.
We are looking for a leader to partner closely with design executives across Amazon, to define and drive design excellence within our community. Success in this role requires the ability to engage and influence a large groups of diverse stakeholders, both internal and external, and operate at a strategic level with senior executives, while simultaneously being able to dive deep into the details of each project stream.
In this role, you will evaluate the health of the design community across Amazon and set goals that prioritize and grow innovative programs that activate design, invest in designers, and equip design teams to do their best work on behalf of customers. You will lead a team that will think big and innovate to fund and deliver scalable programs that grow design culture and careers at Amazon. You will work to identify best practices and build processes that scale for all organizational models across the company and elevate the impact of design within every team and at every level.
Key job responsibilities
Develop strategies that drive design excellence and define a long-term roadmap for the Amazon Design Community
Lead global efforts to drive the implementation of strategic initiatives in the way designers work
Drive cross-disciplinary and cross-org design experimentation; own change management and communication for any transformations introduced for the design function
Actively partner and engage with multi-disciplinary leaders to drive buy in, funding and cross-functional adoption of design team initiatives
Proactively identify and resolve strategic issues that may impair the team’s ability to meet strategic, financial, and design goals
Develop solutions and lead programs that elevate design and improve the employee experience for designers
Proactively Influence and impact design executives across Amazon through data, design industry trends and insights
Collaborate with key design community stakeholders (Amazon Design Leadership, Amazon Design Community, Strategic Recruiting Team)
Advocate for employees and the design community inside and outside of Amazon

Basic Qualifications
18+ years of experience within design teams with a deep understanding of design craft
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead strategic initiatives that drive design excellence and grow design communities
Demonstrated experience synthesizing data, identifying root causes, and developing actionable solutions to solve pain points and improve the employee experience for designers
Demonstrated experience fostering a design community that enables world-class creative development
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and at different levels of the organization
Preferred Qualifications
Passion for learning and innovation, balanced with business needs and employee expectations
Demonstrated mentorship and success growing and developing people and/or high performing teams
Strong bias for action including the ability to juggle multiple priorities and effectively deliver in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Post-graduate education in design, business, or related field or experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $216,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $322,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
