Position Description
The City of Tacoma is recruiting for the position of Digital Manager for the Media and Communications Office. Timely, accurate, and transparent communication with all people of Tacoma, including City employees, is a priority for the City of Tacoma (COT) and its Media and Communications Office (MCO). This position requires the diverse and creative skills of a professional website and social media manager who will manage, execute, and support communications and content development for the City of Tacoma’s many external and internal digital platforms. This position will provide critical input during the City of Tacoma’s external website re-design and once completed, will be responsible for daily management of the external website and internal SharePoint site “Tacoma Hub”, including supervision of the MCO’s social media team and content management of city-wide web stewards, ensuring that all digital content is accurate, professional, transparent, and posted in a timely manner. The position reports directly to the Media and Communications Director
Primary Responsibilities:
Project Management:
In partnership with the City’s IT Department, lead projects within the MCO. This includes the City’s website redesign and other future projects that will enhance the City’s digital communications tools.
Content and Platform Management:
Daily management of external website, internal SharePoint, social media, and all digital platforms, their content, and contributors. He/she/they will manage all multi-media platforms with an emphasis on growing capabilities and improving communication requirements that evolve over time. Responsibilities include: - Copy editing accurate city-wide digital content, - Webpage and microsite approval and creation, - Website and social media maintenance, text, images, updates, and - Any redesigns of the City of Tacoma’s digital platforms, using the City’s Content Management System (CMS) in collaboration with the City’s IT Department.
Supervise MCO’s social media team and manage all the City of Tacoma’s (COT) digital content creators. Responsible for assigning digital content within MCO and approving digital content submitted by COT web stewards.
Partner with internal and external digital content creators, managers, editors, designers, developers, and others to ensure the City of Tacoma’s digital services meet public and internal city needs and align with COT policies and standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree public or business administration or directly related field
AND
5 years of progressively responsible analytical and/or program coordination/management work in area related to assignment including 1 year prior at senior, lead and/or supervisory level
*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education
Desired Qualifications:
BA in Digital Media/Communications, Human Computer Interaction Design, or related degree/experience
3 years website development
3 years website design, and content and site maintenance
2 years in program management or managing web teams
2 years social media management
Experience with accurate and transparent digital and social media content creation and copy editing
Excellent verbal, written and digital communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to accurately disseminate City information using multiple platforms, including digital, video, and social
A demonstrated appreciation for diversity in the workplace
Excellent time management skills and the ability to adapt to different and emerging styles
Ability to work independently with accuracy and competency while detail-oriented
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Willingness to learn and implement emerging communication platforms with accuracy and professionalism
Technical skills, to possibly include HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WordPress, UX Design,Information Architecture and CMS management systems, Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, and/or commensurate

Other Employment Information
Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.
Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.
Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
