The Windsor County States Attorneys Office in White River Junction,Vermont is hiring a Deputy States Attorney. A DSA represents the StatesAttorneys Office in prosecuting criminal and certain civil offenseswithin Windsor County. The position is full time and is eligible forbenefits that include annual, sick, and personal leave, state holidays,retirement, health insurance (80% employer paid), life insurance, dentalafter 6 months, LTD after one year. The DSA position is covered by theSAS DSA pay plan with a salary range of $30.67 to $60.74 based uponrelevant legal experience, Department policies, and admission to theVermont Bar. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney interestedin criminal justice work and acquiring substantial experience in trialwork. A DSA is expected to effectively manage their caseload, and may berequired to assist other offices at the direction of the States Attorneyor the Executive Director. A DSA must work effectively with coworkers,law enforcement, community agencies, and other partners, and pursue bestpractices, innovative approaches and positive outcomes in the justicesystem.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to accurately interpret andapply statutes, rules and regulations. Ability to handle a high volumeof work. Must possess excellent verbal and writing skills, andorganizational skills to effectively meet deadlines in a fast-paced workenvironment. Ability to work independently, exercise initiative,maintain confidentiality, ensure accuracy, and meet deadlines. Computerskills are required, and must perform data entry into the casemanagement system. Ability to maintain self-composure under stressfulsituations. Must establish effective working relationships andrespectfully interact with all co-workers, supervisors, partner andcommunity organizations, victims, and members of the public. Must haveexcellent interpersonal skills, and demonstrate empathy, emotionalintelligence and maturity, particularly in dealing with victims of crimeand other vulnerable populations.
Environmental Factors: Pressure from deadlines, workload, partners,defense counsel, judiciary, victims and other constituents may beexpected. Work outside of the normal schedule regularly occurs. Privatemeans transportation must be available.
