The City of Yankton is currently accepting applications for the position of Deputy Fire Chief. This career is for a creative, team-oriented and emotionally intelligent fire service leader to empower a group of dedicated volunteers and collaborative peers to save lives from fire. The applicant must be a lifelong learner who is passionate about developing others. The ability to work in ambiguous situations with limited resources is paramount to this role. The Deputy Chief in our City wears many hats, including Fire Marshal responsibilities and duties that accomplish strategic priorities of the organization. Works under the Fire Chief and must be able to make Fire Chief decisions in his absence.
This is an exempt position with an annual salary range of $76,101 to $96,344 annually, plus benefits.

Applicants must meet the following requirements for eligibility:60 post-secondary credit hours from a regionally accredited post secondary school; an extensive and diverse fire service application portfolio may substitute.No felony or serious misdemeanor convictions. No marijuana drug use for the past one (1) year; no illegal controlled substances in past five years.Progressive fire service leadership experience in the volunteer or combination fire service.Completion of NIMS IS 100/200/300/400/700/800.Completion of Mastering Fireground Command course or equivalent field experience.Pro-Board Firefighter, Officer, and Instructor I/II or equivalent.Current Emergency Medical Responder certification (or higher).Physically fit and able to perform standard fireground tasks.Successfully complete a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background examination.
