Job Summary The Department Administrator will partner with the Chair inthe overall management of the Kinesiology Department, which is part ofthe School of Public Health & Health Sciences (SPHHS). EssentialFunctions Manage department personnel administration. Work closely withthe School of Public Health and Health Sciences Financial and PersonnelManagers to ensure correct and timely processing of all departmentalpersonnel actions. Coordinate all faculty promotion and tenure cases,periodic multi-year reviews, annual faculty reviews, sabbatical orunpaid leave requests, and course buyouts. Assist the Chair incoordinating teaching assignments and contracts for part-time ortemporary instructors as well as teaching assistants. Manage alldepartment budgets including instructional, operating, gift, revenue,and research trust funds. Provide the Chair with regular financialreports detailing expenses along with current and projected balances.Provide budget recommendations to the Chair. Approve routineexpenditures for department supplies, equipment, services, andfurnishings. Provide supervision to department staff ensuring timelyprocessing of all financial work. Provide support to faculty with basicbudget management. Act as the facilities coordinator for departmentalstaff located in the Totman building, ensuring prompt resolution ofbuilding issues as they arise. Collaborate with the Chair on space andfacility planning; manage space allocations and renovations. Assist withrelated reports and proposals. Manage faculty and staff searchprocesses, including includes creating job postings, schedulinginterviews, and overseeing financial aspects of all searches. Assistwith faculty on-boarding. Collaborate with the Chair on a variety ofspecial projects including department strategic planning and specialevent planning. Take problem solving initiative in the day-to-dayadministrative and operational functions of the department. Develop andimplement various administrative procedures to ensure efficiency andthat goals of the department are met. Hire, train, supervise, andevaluate non-exempt and student staff. Proactively address issuesrelated to employee retention such as creating a positive workenvironment, workload, and professional development. MinimumQualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience,Certifications, Licensure) Bachelor\'s degree and two years of humanresources, finance, or business administration experience. Experiencedeveloping and managing budgets. Excellent managerial and leadershipskills, and the ability to manage crises or changing situationseffectively. Ability to work well independently, take initiative, andcarry out assignments in an organized and timely manner, balancing thedemands of concurrent and potentially competing projects. Ability tomotivate and lead a team working on collaborative projects, and to workcooperatively and productively with a diverse population of faculty,staff, students, and general public. Excellent writing and editingskills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability toexercise sound judgment, confidentiality and think through problems,organize and seek out information, identify key factors and underlyingcauses, and generate solutions or resolve discrepancies. Strong computerskills including at least intermediate expertise with Microsoft OfficeSuite. A proven track record of commitment to customer service. Preferred Qualifications(Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications,Licensure) Master\'s degree in Business, Social Sciences, Public Policyor related field. Previous supervisory experience. Knowledge of UMasssystems.
