POSITION SUMMARY:The Dental Assistant - Outreach provides quality care to patients and quality assistance to the Dental Hygienist, Outreach, ensuring an excellent patient experience. The dental assistant, outreach will follow a school calendar year with summers off.ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides outstanding customer service to students.Assists the Dental Hygienist - Outreach with all procedures and treatments.Prepares, sterilizes, and sets up trays and equipment as per OSHA requirements.Provides postoperative instruction to patients as directed by the Dental Hygienist - OutreachMaintains a clean and sterile dental operatory as outlined in the Dental Infection Control Manual.Instructs students in proper dental hygiene.Pulls and files patient charts as necessary.Talks to community groups, classrooms, day care centers, and other groups on dental health.Serves as a public liaison with community entities including school nurses and administrators.Maintains strict confidentiality of all patient information per HIPAA standards.Maintains annual OSHA, HIPAA, and Infection Control training as required by law.Telehealth Home Visits for patients (with or without web enablement and/or homebound) with medical and dental care needsPerforms other duties as assigned by the Dental Outreach Manager or Chief Dental Officer.Position Requirements:EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:High School Diploma or GED.EXPERIENCE / TRAINING:Dental experience preferred.Good communication skills, high in initiative and work standards, ability to relate well to children, and ability to provide team support.Multi-lingual skills (particularly Spanish) preferred.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: N/ATRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to travel to schools throughout the district.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to regularly remain on your feet for long hours.Ability to lift and or move up to 25lbs.Good vision and have the ability to work up close and adjust focus when necessary.Must be able to climb stairs and carry needed items for Telehealth Home Visits.Must be able to wear PPE (gowns, gloves, mask, face shield, shoe covers) for extended periods of time if needed due to isolation/protective patient needs.
