  JOB GOAL:

  To advance the college’s mission, vision, principles, values and strategic initiatives through continuous improvement decisions.

  GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

  The Dean will provide strategic leadership and direction in advancing instructional practices, curriculum development, course development, Test Center operations and faculty professional development. They will be responsible for investigating, planning, developing, implementing and assessing professional development and training opportunities aimed at promoting best practices in instruction. They will also work closely with the academic departments to provide support for new curriculum development and re-development initiatives. The Dean will work in collaboration with the Academic Affairs office to coordinate onboarding for new faculty during their probationary period and to implement

  The dean will serve as a leader and advocate for innovative instructional practices on campus.

  DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  Identify, plan and execute professional development related to instruction, including Kirkwood Faculty Onboarding (KFO).

  Provide oversight to existing and new Competency Based Education (CBE) programs and expand offerings.

  Direct the course development process with the support of the instructional designers.

  Facilitate Professional Development activities in alignment with the academic affairs strategic priorities.

  Coordinate the preparation and submission of all reports and studies that are required from the department.

  Develop and support innovative instructional practices.

  Coordinate the licensure and utilization of instructional software, including the LMS, course survey software, course scheduling software, etc.

  Provide oversight for the testing department, including assisting in providing proper facilities, equipment and materials to meet the needs of the testing operations of the college.

  Remain current in upcoming and new instructional trends with potential applications to our curriculum.

  Cooperate with other departments and offices within the College to foster communications and establish processes to support student learning and retention.

  Develop and maintain the tools for assessing instructional strategies, including course observations, to share with departments.

  Report on progress of course/curriculum development to the supporting department.

  Direct the preparation of the annual budget.

  Supervise and evaluate full-time and part time staff.

  Perform other related work duties as assigned.

  PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

  Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  Master’s degree in an academic discipline, higher education administration, curriculum and instruction, or a related field.

  Five years successful college teaching experience.

  Candidate must have demonstrated educational leadership ability and possess knowledge of trends and issues related to community college education.

  PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

  Community college teaching experience or administrative experience preferred.

  Doctorate degree preferred.

  Previous administrative or supervisory experience preferred.

  Previous experience in curriculum development, designing faculty professional development, faculty onboarding, distance learning program administration, and/or online course management systems preferred.
