Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Associate Provost and Director of OIE , the Data Governance Director leads six cross-institutional teams in the design and implementation of university Data Governance. Responsible for leading the implementation of university-wide data governance, the Data Governance Director will have responsibility for improving the design of university-wide Data Governance, which includes leading cross-institutional teams charged with designing processes and maintaining business processes to ensure institutional data quality/integrity, responsible data access and management, data literacy, data retention, and data security and architecture. The position will focus on establishing and ensuring adherence to best practices for institutional data governance data policies, standards and business processes, both at the department and functional/division area level. This leadership position is charged with achieving the required level of data consistency, quality and protection to meet overall university data-decision making needs.
Responsible for refining the design, implementation, and oversight of Loyola’s data management goals in collaboration with multiple university partners
Provides leadership and oversight to ensure the consistent productivity of all five of the Data Governance working groups: data literacy, data integrity/data quality, data management and access, data retention, and data security and architecture
Works in collaboration with the DGISC , the Associate Provost and Director of OIE , and the Association VP of Data Security and Architecture to set overall goals and working group deliverables for Data Governance.
Establishes and maintains Enterprise Data Glossary and Standard Terminology as well as ensures data dictionaries accompany institutional level dashboards and systematic reports
Coordinates efforts of collaboration and engagement between and across departments to ensure appropriate policies and procedures are implemented systematically
Promotes adoption and education of data standards and practices
Collaborates with Information Security regarding data access and data loss prevention requirements
Promotes the work of the 5 Data Governance working groups while keeping them on schedule with needed deliverables and deadlines.
Assesses the effectiveness of data governance at Loyola, recommending changes to the DGISC through the Associate Provost and Director of OIE .
Produces summary reports of Data Governance progress for Executive Leadership to consume and use.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. At least five years of progressive related experience.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
7 years of experience with any combination of the following relating to data: queries & reporting, business intelligence dashboards, data modeling & translation, data quality & integrity, data governance, or data security, institutional compliance reporting.
A master’s degree in information systems, data science, analytics, education research, or in a related area or related experience in Data Governance.
Knowledge of relational database concepts and tools.
Familiarity with data warehouse concepts and design.
Higher education institutional data management and reporting experience.

Demonstrate the knowledge needed and experience designing and managing a governance structure that deals with complex academic data
