Job Summary
The Custodian, under immediate supervision, provides cleaning, bed linenchange out, floor care, moving, grounds and project services as directedby supervisor. May also perform specific interior and exterior MedicalHousekeeping cleaning duties to maintain a clean and aseptic environmentthroughout the hospital/clinics. The Custodian may be assigned to any one ofseveral positions to include: patient area cleaner, non-patient areacleaner, trash technician, special care unit cleaner, and/or others
Essential Functions:
Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuumingthem. Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and equipment, inorder to prevent damage to finishes and fixtures. (20%)Change bed linens (15%)Gathers and empties trash and linen. (15%)Transports and appropriately handles trash, recycling, medical waste,linen, and other items to each designated area and maintains waste areaswithin regulatory standards. (15%)Uses floor care equipment to strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.Also uses floor care equipment to clean carpet and upholstery. Equipmentincludes buffers, scrubbers, burnishers, extractors and other relatedequipment. (15%)Cleans windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water orother cleaners, sponges, and squeegees (10%)Mixes water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaningsolutions, according to specifications (10%)
Education:
No High School Diploma and/or No GED Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job. Knowledge ofsafety hazards and necessary safety precautions sufficient to be able toestablish a safety work environment. Knowledge of chemicals and equipment usedto clean surface areas sufficient to be able to maintain a clean and orderlywork area. Knowledge of proper cleaning methods.Knowledge of and/or ability to learn occasional hazards and safetyprecautions. Skill in understanding and following oral, illustrated,written or demonstrated instructions. Ability to communicate effectively.Ability to work within Health Department standards.
Command of English strongly preferred. Formal or informal education ortraining which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary forsuccessful job performance.
