Position Summary: This series is responsible for performing a variety ofduties related to cleaning and the up keeping of orderly conditions ofcourthouse premises and is responsible for providing custodial andjanitorial services. The higher level requires the performance ofincreasingly more responsible and varied work which requires greaterknowledge of cleaning chemicals, surface types, the utilization ofpower/mechanized cleaning equipment, and providing direction to lesssenior staff. Employees are hired at the entry level position and areeligible for reclassification to the higher level position titles withinthis series consistent with the specifications for the higher levelposition titles. Custodian I Duties: \Keeps a building in clean andorderly condition by performing a combination of activities includingcleaning assigned areas. \Maintains the cleanliness and appearance offloors by sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming. \Washes interior surfacesof buildings such as walls, ceilings, windows, etc. using appropriatesupplies and equipment. \Empties waste receptacles and disposes ofrefuse. \Dusts and polishes furniture. \Performs related duties suchas loading and unloading equipment and supplies from vehicles, movingfurniture in rooms for special functions or meetings. \Performs outsideduties such as washing windows, sweeping walks, shoveling snow, andpicking up trash. \Performs related duties as required. Custodian IIAdditional Duties: \Utilizes advanced custodial equipment such asautomatic cleaning equipment, snow blowers, and lawn mowers. \Completeknowledge of cleaning chemicals, surface types, industrial cleaningmethods, etc; \Performs minor repairs to building. \Performs smallmotor/equipment repairs. \Functions as lead person on project work.\Performs related duties as required. Minimum Requirements: These arethe minimum requirements necessary to apply for the position ofCustodian I Custodian I Requirements: \One to three years\' experiencein basic custodial / janitorial duties. \Ability to perform physicallabor and follow oral and written instructions. \Knowledge of methodsfollowed in building custodial work. \Knowledge of types and uses ofmaterials, tools, and equipment used in building custodial work.\Physical stamina and endurance. Custodian II Additional Requirements:\At least two years\' experience as at the entry level position,working with automatic cleaning equipment and industrial cleaningmethods. \Ability to perform physical labor and follow oral and writteninstructions. \Knowledge of methods followed in building custodialwork. \Knowledge of types and uses of materials, tools, and equipmentused in building custodial work. \Ability to give direction andinstruction to less senior staff.
