Job Summary
Under minimal supervision, administers general, regional and monitoredanesthesia care for scheduled and emergency surgical and obstetricalprocedures. Performs anesthesia-related procedures at the discretion of andunder the supervision of an attending anesthesiologist. Evaluates patientspreoperatively and, in consultation with the attending anesthesiologist,formulates and carries out an anesthesia care plan including monitoring andrecording patient reaction to anesthesia and modifying the anesthetic planaccordingly. Safely transports patients to and from an anesthetizing locationand ensures appropriate care during the postoperative period.
Essential Functions:
Performs appropriate pre-induction evaluation of patient's physical status.Completes a pre-anesthetic evaluation and discusses plan of care with patientand/or family, including risks, benefits, and alternatives.Formulates an appropriate anesthetic plan consistent with surgicalrequirements, taking into consideration the physical and emotional conditionof the patient. Discusses anesthetic plan with the attendinganesthesiologist.Provides anesthesia care in a manner that is consistent with acceptedstandards of care. Recognizes urgent situations and responds in a manner thatpromotes the highest likelihood of a positive patient outcome. Requestsconsultation from the attending anesthesiologist as appropriate. (20%)Documents patient care correctly; Maintains accurate and legibledocumentation of all patient health care provided, confidentiality ofpatient information and records, and accurate records for controlled drugadministration. (10%)Performs appropriate post-anesthesia evaluation, care, and discharge. Anyand all post-operative complications are brought to the attendinganesthesiologist's attention. Transfer of patient care responsibility toappropriate personnel with communication of significant elements of care.(20%)Takes on-call duty as assigned and maintains availability when on-call outsidethe hospital. Monitors patients. Attends monthly department meetings andassumes temporary administrative responsibilities when needed. Suggests ordevelops new revenue generating or dollar saving procedures. Participates inthe development of more efficient patient care services. (10%)Contributes to development of patient teaching or care manuals. Pursues andattains more than minimum CME credits. Actively participates in in-serviceeducation. Attends departmental teaching and M&M conferences. (10%)Actively performs education and Teaching of Resident Registered NurseAnesthetists. (5%)Assist Anesthesiology faculty in the education and training of other trainees.(5%)Education:
Master's Degree In directly related field RequiredWork Experience:

Skilled in the use and maintenance of anesthesia equipment.Skill to communicate effectively with physicians, patients and otherhospital employees.Ability to assist with patients who may need ICU ventilators, high-riskintubations and facilitate fiber optic intubations.Computer skills required.
