Description
Under general supervision, performs daily work assignments for the Police Division of the Alamogordo Police Department, in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority.
Recruitment QualificationsRequired:
Five (5) years work experience in law enforcement or criminal justice system;Five (5) years experience with NMLEPSC accreditation and compliance;Valid New Mexico Drivers License, or the ability to obtain within 60 days, with a driving record acceptable to the City of Alamogordo (valid out-of-state license may be considered); orAny combination of training, education and experience which is equivalent to the employment standards listed above, and which provides the required knowledge and abilities, will be deemed acceptable for this position.Desired:
Bachelors degree in computer sciences, law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration, records management, or a closely related field.Experience in designing, preparing and submitting written reports or other documents to regulatory or compliance agencies.Experience in behavior science, statistics, investigation software applications, geographic information systems, research, design or information system.Essential DutiesPerforms complex administrative, analytical, and professional work to demonstrate the Police Departments compliance with adherence to standards on Accreditation for law enforcement agencies, New Mexico Law Enforcement Professional Standards Council (NMLEPSC);Perform routine analysis, create offender profiles, and analyze complex law enforcement data to help anticipate crime activity. Assist in determining how patrol efforts could be assisted through the use of this information;Recommend the use of analytical products which will assist in identifying strategic plans in crime prevention and the overall reduction of crime within the City;Compile and manage statistical data to produce reports on crime trends and conduct resource allocation studies;Develop a system to identify and track threatening individuals, situations and security related activity. Identify vulnerabilities in current strategies and provide reports to Command Staff;Formulate a plan to incorporate daily briefing into an action-oriented tool of accountability in reducing crime;Through analysis of historical data; develop, coordinate, and assess responses to short term problems;On a monthly basis, evaluate to see if strategies are working toward long term reduction of criminal activity;Assists in the design, testing, and/or maintenance of operational databases, analytical software, hardware, and peripheral equipment to enhance the quality of the work product, improve productivity and ensure equipment is functioning properly;Reduce risk and liability exposure for the Department through maintenance of NMLEPSC Accreditation;Identifies, verifies, and reconciles compliance with established law enforcement standards, correcting any noted deficiencies through policy, training, or other administrative measures; reviews standards and ensures the department remains in compliance; stays abreast of all aspects of the accreditation process to include proposed amendments to the standards;Develops, writes, reviews, revises, and manages the departments policies and forms to ensure compliance with NMLEPSC standards; recommends changes in policies and procedures when indicated by NMLEPSC updates, changes, or modifica ions; maintains a standard format for policies to be reviewed and revised on a scheduled basis; maintains accreditation files;Conducts regular reviews and revises department rules and regulations to ensure standard operating procedures are reliable and up-to-date and meet all current NMLEPSC, legislative mandates, and judicial rulings;Conducts scanning of future trends affecting professional law enforcement compliance with accreditation standards, including social, technological, economic, political, and legal issues, whether arising from within law enforcement or through external community issues;Coordinates on-site NMLEPSC assessments and inspections; prepares and submits required reports and documentation to NMLEPSC; prepares the department for re-accreditation;Serves as a liaison between police administration, other department employees and outside agencies in all accreditation efforts; regularly reports to agency staff on accreditation compliance;Provides accreditation related training to department personnel; ensures appropriate training for department employees on all new and revised policies;Maintain accurate and up-to-date files by ensuring the timeliness of reports and inspections relating to accreditation activities;Contributes to a high-quality work culture through participation in training and mentoring to develop skills, including safety related training and skills;Interacts professionally and provides excellent customer service to all levels of City staff and citizens, to ensure high operational and service standards; andPerforms duties in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority.OTHER IMPORTANT DUTIES
