  Description of Job

  The salary range for this position is:

  $26.94 - $39.32 Hourly

  $2,154.92 - $3,145.85 Biweekly

  $4,669.00 - $6,816.00 Monthly

  $56,028.00 - $81,792.00 Annually

  The Appeals work unit exists to: (1) analyze, review, and process any interested party’s appeal of a denial of paid family and medical leave benefits, among other appeal hearings; (2) conduct administrative proceedings by holding hearings, resolving motions, and issuing timely written decisions consistent with due process requirements, statutes, regulations and case law

  governing the benefits provided under the FAMLI program; (3) assist parties and members of the public who need assistance regarding the appeals process; (4) record and retain decisions of hearing officers; and (5) process appeals that have been remanded to the Appeals Unit for a new or continued hearing or issuance of a new hearing officer’s decision. (6) support the appeals unit workflow.

  Under the direction of the Court Administrator or the unit managers, this position (1) performs and provides additional administrative support services for the appeals unit. (2) actively manage, maintain, and communicate to appropriate stakeholders denial or approval of appeal activities or outcomes. (3) assist in workflow between administrative staff and hearing officers.

  Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  Substitutions:

  Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis. An example would be experience in the list below of professional experience. Must include experience with legal support functions such as court docketing or case litigation coordination.

  Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

  Education and Experience:

  Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the work assignment.

  AND

  One year of professional experience. Must include experience with legal support functions such as court docketing or case litigation coordination.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  · Paralegal Certificate

  · At least two (2) years employment with a judicial or administrative court or as legal staff

  in a law office or legal department engaged in litigation work with adjudicatory bodies.

  · Experience in reading and writing documentation in legal terms.

  · General understanding of court and legal processes.

  Experience performing similar duties as a State of Colorado classified employee.

  Competencies:

  Strong verbal / written communication and organizational skills

  Advanced knowledge of FAMLI policies and procedures

  Proficiency with PC Software, such as Google and Microsoft Office product and case management software

  Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

  Excellent multi tasking skills

  Excellent customer service, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills

  Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  Establishing processes and procedures

  Ability to apply regulations, other official guidance and principle s

  Comfortable in a fast paced environment.

  Data entry experience

  Strong work ethic with experience handling sensitive and confidential information

  Time management and the ability to prioritize work

  A desire to learn; team player with a willingness to help where required

  Conditions of Employment:

  Must be a Colorado resident at time of application.

  APPEAL RIGHTS:
