  Position Summary

  The mission of Energizer’s Legal Department is to serve as a trusted business partner to our clients – utilizing our deep understanding of the business to proactively provide insights and data that help drive profit, while also providing clear risk-based counsel to defend our brands.   Energizer is seeking an experienced and motivated Counsel, Global Marketing, Batteries, who will be responsible for providing legal advice and support on a wide range of marketing matters facing a consumer products company globally, including providing primary Legal support to the core Energizer teams developing and launching Battery products. This role will report to the Associate General Counsel, Global Commercial Operations, Marketing, & Trademarks.

  Counsel will interact with and provide support to the following functions: Marketing, R&D, Regulatory, Procurement, Supply Chain, and ESG. This is a strong growth opportunity for a dynamic lawyer looking to join a fast-paced and dynamic team.

  Responsibilities

  This role will primarily support Marketing, R&D, and ESG. This position is expected to be a key business partner and to contribute to the success of the Company by combining both legal and business expertise to understand Energizer’s operations and strategic goals. This attorney will be expected to work effectively across internal legal and non-legal functions. This role requires a mature individual who can fight fires as needed and provide practical legal advice that supports business objectives. Specific responsibilities include:

  Reviewing marketing and ESG / sustainability related claims and providing the business with a risk analysis based on the provided substantiation

  Analyzing battery products, category dynamics, policies and initiatives to provide practical legal risk mitigation strategies for products across multiple global jurisdictions

  Coordinating internally and externally across different subject matter experts, legal and other groups in addressing battery category-related issues, including educating and training colleagues

  Drafting and reviewing product terms of service, trial agreements, FAQs, technical requirements, customer care and training scripts as well as product collateral and advertising copy

  Engagement with Regulatory function to proactively assess legislative or regulatory developments with actual or potential impact on key product initiatives and strategies

  Engagement with Supply Chain to ensure cross-functional visibility to any supply changes potentially impacting marketing claims

  Ensuring compliance with existing policies, federal and state laws and regulations and assisting in formulation of solutions to any identified problem areas exposing company to risk

  Respond to a wide-range of legal inquiries from internal stakeholders, focusing on understanding their needs, providing practical solutions and effectively managing risk

  Willingness and interest in handling various legal matters, even if they fall outside day-to-day responsibilities

  What we are looking for

  Juris Doctorate degree (JD) from an accredited institution

  Member in good standing of at least one state bar

  8+ years of legal experience, including in-house experience

  Experience advising clients on intellectual property, marketing, advertising, and international laws

  Ability to work as an impactful business partner in a dynamic environment by giving reasoned balanced legal advice that is understandable to the business

  Strong analytical, writing and communication/presentation skills

  Strong leadership skills

  Strong customer service focus

  Ability to collaborate with others in a matrix management structure

  Ability to build positive relationships with senior management and other members of the legal team and to positively influence outcomes

  Ability to resolve ambiguities and provide legal guidance in uncertain situations

  Ability to evaluate and mitigate risk

  Global mindset and the ability to work virtually with business partners across the globe

  Willingness to take on new projects even if they are outside the scope of day-to-day responsibilities
