  The Role

  HII has a robust international trade compliance program and is committed to demonstrating reasonable care with its import activity and customs compliance. The successful candidate is expected to be a technical expert in import customs compliance and will provide the Company guidance and direction in the areas of Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) Classifications, customs clearance documentation, determining valuation, and responding to government inquiries as necessary. The candidate will also conduct self-assessments and implement corrective actions or gap analysis to improve the overall compliance program. Periodically, candidate will be asked to deliver training. Responsibilities will include:

  Act as import compliance and customs manager for the corporation.

  Manage the Company’s HTS Classification program.

  Effectively communicate with internal customers on customs matters.

  Monitor customs activity through the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) and run ACE reports.

  Oversee and manage Customs Brokers.

  Perform self-assessments.

  Oversee and maintain HTS database.

  Support division reconciliation programs.

  Assist with the integration of new business entities acquired through mergers/acquisitions.

  Support the overall international trade compliance program to include stretch assignments and training of personnel.

  Must Have

  Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience; Master's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience

  Nice to Have

  ​​​​​

  Ideal candidate will have mastery level of the mechanics behind classifying products on the HTS; ability to self-classify utilizing GRIs; and conduct thorough analysis of classifications.

  Firm understanding of customs documentation and filings.

  Firm understanding of the various Customs valuation methods and the ability to apply those methods.

  Management experience.

  Hands-on experience importing defense articles and hardware.

  Should be a detail-oriented individual who can be comfortable working as a team leader and as an individual contributor. Additionally, should be able to work on multiple projects and assignments concurrently.

  Should have the ability to write procedures and develop internal forms and instructions.

  Should have excellent interpersonal, communication, & presentation skills.

  Prior experience with Corporate-level compliance programs.

  Prior experience with assessments or audits.

  Computer literacy is essential (i.e. Microsoft suite of products).

  Experience in international trade matters such as export compliance, EEI Filings, denied party screening and sanctions.
