Position DescriptionCold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking a hard working individual for the position of Cook in our General Dining & Events department. The responsibilities of this person would be to cook for events and general dining services as directed by the chefs, to assist with the supervising of the seasonal cook staff, and to maintain a sanitary environment.
Position ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities will include:
- Assist the sous chef with preparing hot and cold food for breakfast and lunch including eggs, pancakes, salads, sandwiches, and soup.
- Take inventory and restock products.
- Maintain cooking equipment and a sanitary work environment.
- Troubleshoot and conduct minor repairs on the kitchen and coffee equipment.
- Consistently provide quality food and beverages for all customers by adhering to the menu, health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.
- Interact with customers and coworkers in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service oriented manner.
Position Requirements
Education: High school degree is required. Experience: Must have a minimum of one-year experience working in a food service establishment.Knowledge/Skills: - Ability to follow instructions and proper sanitation procedures. - Ability to work as part of a team and maintain an organized work space. - Ability to accept change of direction in work and priorities with a positive attitude. - Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality. - Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming. - Proficient in Outlook and Excel preferred. - Knowledge of a point-of-sale system preferred. - Nassau County Department of Health sanitation certificate preferred. - Ability to understand the Spanish language is helpful.Working Conditions: - Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. - Constant standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and turning. - Receiving of information through oral communication and a computer. - Exposure to heat and noise. |

The hourly rate for this role is $18.24-25.53. The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining a base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and internal equity).
